Maybe he just loves being all up in the camera, he probably would never turn down the change if it was an option or not. He loves his job so not surprised he is working his ass off.
He's just trying to create avenues so that he's less dependent on 1 role.
The issue is, he isn't especially knowledgeable or good at any of them.

I would assume that they included in his contract that he could make an appearance in a variety of ESPN/ABC television shows. The Oscars has been broadcast on ABC since 1976, so I’m assuming that it counts as well.
You know nikkas say anything for daps. Dude does a couple hours of shows a day where he’s just sitting and talking. I think Skip Bayless is one of the only few people who does his own stats and research notes. He used to brag about it all the time on First Take.
I feel that same. He's just sitting and talking. People do that all day for free or crumbs. He's literally getting paid to just talk lol. Millions at that.
Stephen is star chaser, he wants to rub shoulders with A List celebs and Hollywood folks, and build his brand as one the top Entertainment Journalist in this country. He definitely loves this. And all this work is most likely his idea.
