I don’t think a lot of yall realize how grimy & dangerous Memphis is. Yes, celebs get their homes broken into all over but it’s nothing to become a robbery victim or to catch a stray bullet
The problem now is that even those gated communities and cities are getting it too as crime is crossing over more than it used to.

It just doesn't get talked about as much for obvious reasons.

ATL to MEM
You can say that about more nba cities than just Memphis.

Detroit, Oakland, Philly, DC, New Orleans, Houston. Thing is Athletes aren’t living inthe high crimes area of those metro areas.

This is said like a person who has never been to Memphis.

All of those places you mentioned have an affluent area or suburb, even if it’s just a city over.

Memphis does not have that.

There is no affluent area in Memphis where young people can congregate that isn’t within walking distance of the hood. NONE!

Memphis is such a unique and beautiful and horrific city all in one. Socially and politically it has an apartheid South Africa feel - majority black, policies decided by whites. A place where the site of the coldblooded assassination of the most visible American Civil Rights activist has been turned into a tourist industry. The Stax studio was forced into bankruptcy and bought for $1 by some local CACs, then turned into a museum that whitewashes so much of its history. And it's def true that Memphis is super duper gully and the day to day dangers are everpresent - like @The_Sheff said, the hood is somehow always just a block or two away.

That said, the white people don't like going to Grizz games (and man, those are some black ass games culturally and attendance wise, I was hyped when I went), and there has been a movement to get the team to Nashville for a minute. Especially as Nashville increasingly becomes Atlanta for CACs. Very little doubt in my mind Steppin A. Fetch is doing some cracker's dirty work here... it's long overdue for someone to punch this roach-cricket in his cartoon c00n face.

Was in Memphis for a couple of hours on a road trip. The only mid sized to major city I had to keep my head on a swivel… and I was in the business district before evening hours. New Orleans is like DC or Chicago compared to Memphis.

It’s not a pro sports city at all.

Their lease is up in 2027 so I can see Nashville, Seattle or Vegas for them.
