Grant was a bonafide superstar. You don't have a high selling non Nike shoe w/o being one. Bron and Steph on another level like I stated earlier, Megastars.

I feel like casuals in the 90s knew Grant Hill but idk i was a kid then. My mom and sister knew who he was :yeshrug:

But generally, yes right now it's only Bron and Steph.

I still feel Kyrie was definitely heading for that level of sustained popularity before the jew shyt. The Uncle Drew shyt + Finals shot + crazy skills + Kobe association + shoes selling like crazy. Just needed to stay outta drama and win a title with BK.

Going forward there are no candidates really.

Are today’s superstars, none of them are MEGASTARS like Lebron or Steph but era defining players who truly transcend the sport are more rare than I think we give credit for. It takes not only league defining skill, but a measure of charisma, marketability, and that “It”’factor to truly transcend. Look at Lebron and Steph. Them nikkas are as close to “perfect” as human males get. Family men with wives who aren’t IG thots, no cheating scandals, no illegitimate b*stards running around, not so much as a speeding ticket between them, well behaved children, great media training.

Thats a LOT of self discipline, brand awareness, genetic luck, and right decision making. We all look at Anthony Edwards personal life and say “He’s only 23” but Lebron was EIGHTEEN when he came in the league, and even younger when he was one of the most popular and well known basketball players who ever lived. Dude could have ran through any skeezer or whore or gold digger he wanted to but he didn’t (or if he did, he at least had the foresight to keep it quiet and not het anybody pregnant) and stayed loyal to Savannah.

Giannis is probably the one player on that list who meets the requirements to get the megastar push but he’s a foreigner with a thick accent and even though he has an inspiring story, it doesn’t seem like he “milks” it much.

If Jalen improbably leads The Knicks to a title he could be pushed to Megastar status if he wants it but i’m not sure his personality warrants it.

Hali nor Brunson have a shoe. You can't be a superstar w/o one.

Y’all still going on about this corny shyt about what defines a superstar?

If someone can hoop when the lights are at their brightest, that’s all that matters. All this other shyt y’all be posting is nothing more than a red herring. Too much soap opera ass narratives.

I still remember the apple jacks cereal box with Grant Hill and Sheryl Swoopes on it. I was asking my moms to cop that shyt. I was a casual bball fan but Grant Hill definitely had a buzz...but idk how much complete casuals who dont watch sports knew of him....it was hard af to transcend the sport with no internet

yeah I dont think he was a superstar altho he was supposed toi have next in a lot of ways

He got too many of these. Superstars don't. Maybe superstars shoot like shyt but not this single single bull. Ant too. It's tough cause if we usin standards of prime Bron, Steph, KD, even the Kawhis, CP3s, Hardens.... Then nikka like Haliburton and Ant not superstars. Our MVP talent for American hoops fell off a cliff. This 2020s era true superstars and elite MVP talents be the foreigners - SGA, Jokic, Luka, Giannis, Embiid, soon Wemby. Closest we got is Tatum but even he have those 5/23 and 3/16 performances too often. He closer to a Paul George then those elite American superstars of the 2010s I named before. When Boston won it all he was probably only their best player for 1 series. Jaylen and even White was cookin a lot superstars don't get shown out by they supporin cast like we got these 2020s era American hoopers happenin.

Bron and Steph are megastars. They can’t be compared or quantified to anyone not named Michael Jordan Or Kobe Bryant.

Its almost not fair to compare anyone to them. That level of fame only comes along one or twice a generation
