Perfect example of the worthless content. You got a young player about to usher an offensive juggernaut into the NBA Finals and the main convo comes from a piece of shyt talking head yelling about how he's not a superstar. What value does this provide? Is this how you want a potential "next up" guy to be treated, on the cusp of the Finals?
I literally came in here to laugh at this stupid ass conversation :heh:

But regardless the shyt is a moot point. That “face of the league shyt” is a talking point that’s not affecting the day to day. The talking heads just need something or somebody to tear down. The same nikkas who try to make Ant the face are the same ones asking if he was pushed too early. Instead of worrying about the game because they can’t actually talk about the game at a high enough level, and the ones who do don’t have a big enough platform to actually teach the game to a broader audience. That’s the real problem today, and probably tomorrow
Mfs who can’t talk hoop talk this Barbie dress up type shyt. Like they executives who stand to make any money off the shyt. Same as the ratings convos. If SAS is a part of the conversation, probably not worth the conversation

Downplay new players and would rather talk about LeBron

ESPN is a shell of itself it’s reality tv at this point.

Give me the espn top ten plays and showing highlights without any agendas

So the best player in the league isn't a superstar?

I don't think there's any hard and fast rule for what constitutes a superstar, especially in today's league where stardom is a fluid concept. Someone like Jokic isn't a recognized name/face in the general public, but he's without a shadow of a doubt a superstar in every sense of the word, on the court. Any player that seperates themselves from your typical star is one.

Someone said the other day that he's basically a "new age Nash", and that's pretty much the perfect description of him.

Suns passed on him for Jalen Smith :mjcry:

Fukk James Jones :mjcry:

I tend to agree. If the Pacers somehow win it all, he would be elevated to that status IMO.

Hell after this run, I'm sure his team has to be cooking up some deals and opportunities coming his way on the business side. I can also see him really leaning into the villain angle with how he positions himself, especially with the overrated bit.

I could see a campaign that tracks well behind him and his game. He has a flashy enough game to go along with the trolling and shyt talking on the court. There's plenty to work with if the results come with his team's success lowkey.

No he wouldn’t :unimpressed:

Haliburton is simply the new Kyle Lowry

Are the only superstars in the league. Like @The_Sheff said, being a superstar also includes off court stuff. Not taking anything away from Hali he’s top 5 PG but if the kids don’t talk about you, I can’t label you a superstar

Nah. Take Ja and Melo out. You can't be a superstar just because you have a pretty game/marketability.

They haven't done shyt. Haliburton proved multiple times he deserves to be up there now.

Like some posters said imo superstar=box office. If an athlete has multi commercials and signature shoes they are superstars. There are tiers to superstardom as well imo.
Like Tatum a superstar but not in the same tier as Bron and Steph.

I'd add Tatum. Multi brand commercials and signature shoe plus dating a RnB singer. Top 5 selling jersey.

So you’re saying popularity is the only thing that determines superstar status? Angel is my girl, but she isn’t a top five or top ten player in the league.

I saw earlier you said Duncan wasn’t a superstar and I disagree with that as well. If you’re a top 3 player in the entire league, you’re a superstar by default.

How tf is melo a superstar and never had 40 wins yall sound like groupies
superstar status has to do with the fame factor. celebrity appeal. its indictor is more to do with jersey sales and shoe endorsements than winning seasons.
if sponsors don't fukk with you ,you are not a superstar. You just an allstar

What celebrity appeal did Larry Bird have besides being white and playing for Boston? Bird wasn’t some media darling, and he and Duncan have nearly identical accolades after their first 5-6 years or so. Bird didn’t even want to do that Converse commercial with Magic. They filmed it in Indiana because that’s where Bird spent his offseason.

He didn't have the same star appeal as magic if thats what you are implying. I'd say their relative net worths is testiment to that,
Magic is literally 10 times as wealthy as bird today.

But yes being white and american did lift him up somewhat. If he was black, he'd be tim duncan status

So basically, white casuals determine superstar status
