Personally, I admire Africans and their culture and am proud to say that I am a descendant of Africans.

My girlfriend is Igbo and I’ve dated many Caribbean and African women. Never had any issues with their families accepting me.

But at the same time, if black people in America want a distinct culture to identify with I don’t see why people are so butthurt about it.

Even if you take a DNA test, most of us can’t trace our origins back to one specific tribe so why is it somehow a bad thing for us to acknowledge we’ve created our own identity?

Mexicans who are recent immigrants or the children of immigrants will, for example, call themselves paisas.

The ones who were born here and have been here for decades will call themselves Chicanos or Tejanos.

They acknowledge their Mexican heritage but also understand that they aren’t the exact same as actual Mexicans.

This gesture on Steve Harvey’s part comes off as contrived and forced.

I don’t believe in bad mouthing Africans or stereotyping/demonizing them, though.
I think this is a bad post. It started off strong but I live in Texas. Some Tejanos strongly identify with Mexico and many don't strongly identify with it and have aligned with a white-based culture. Are you saying, Black folks, are white people with a white-based culture? I am confused. My personal experience with those Tejanos is they will vote for Trump and see themselves as white whereas the Mexicans voted for Biden and saw themselves as ppl of color to a degree whereas Tejanos NEVER see themselves as ppl of color and see themselves as white.

Rich nikkas dont play tribal politics.... thats for lil nikkas.

The upper crust of all groups of men tend to have an international orientation & international connects.

At the top - its about making connections based on wealth, power, and mutual interests.

Exactly. The wealthy are laughing all the way to the bank... while the Shift supervisor at Starbucks partakes in heated online Diaspora wars. Pretty sad

First these nikkas were from Shem, now they Native Americans lol anything to distance themselves from Africa they will dig up the most obscure references of black and native americans and disregard literal MOUNTAINS of dna, linguistic, cultural, religious, and architectural evidence linking black in the new world to Africa. Here is somebody from the Gullah Geechi people of South Carolina speaking the same language of somebody in Sierra Leone despite being centuries removed from one another

That's crazy :ohhh:

Africans have been in Africa waring with “each other” for decades …they don’t even believe this shyt …why should black Americans? Pan Africanism is great in an idealistic sense but humans are tribal and nationalism is real for all races

Exactly these folks claim flat blackness when convenient(To partake in and benefit from ADOS culture or identity) No one in African even believes this.

Afro-descendants of the Americas/New World (Aframs, Haitians, Jamaicans, Afro-Brazilians, Dominicans, etc) are mostly genetically African and we still have a few cultural traits from West and Central African peoples!? *Sarcasm* I'm absitively posolutely shocked! */Sarcasm*

However, we're different, on a cultural, historical, geographical and even a genetic level. I'm not a Pan-Africanist as it's nothing more than kumbaya fantasy that thinks all black/SSA people are the same and we should unite into a superstate and it'll work because we're black/SSA (although I'm for Pan-African trade and trade agreements as on average, the more a continent trades within itself, the richer it becomes).
And no, white people (or any other 'race') aren't unified or 'on code'. The Korean peninsula is split. India hates Pakistan and vice versa. Russia and Ukraine are shooting each other as I'm writing this post. Race is a poor factor for unity.

At the same time, while having some pride in your ethnic and/or national group is a good thing, it can be taken too far and to the point of xenophobia (some FBAs calling other black people tethers. Or Black South Africans attacking Black Africans).

Here's an idea. Why not do a bit of both!?
We can acknowledge that we are black/SSA but that we are different culturally. How about we acknowledge our differences and learn from them through communication?
It's as simple as that.

I live in Texas too.

You’re bringing the political views of Tejanos into the conversation when it doesn’t relate to my point at all.

Not only that but many Mexicans voted for and supported Trump, even those with illegal relatives.

My overall point is, Mexicans acknowledge the fact that individuals within their diaspora who left Mexico decades ago are distinctly different from Mexicans who migrated up here recently without it being seen as disrespect or self-hate.

You cannot tell a Mexican that they are the same as a Chicano who’s family came here in the 1920s or even before them.

They will take that as disrespect.

Again, I don’t co-sign demonizing African immigrants or generalizing. Nor do I co-sign appropriating other cultures and claiming that we aren’t African at all.

That’s some whole other shyt.

Some of the riches Africans in history have perpetuated some of the most deadly tribal conflicts :russ:

I am not following that example to relate to Black folks and African folks.

I am both. Ya'll nikkas similar to Africans, just not atypical.

They mix with some tribes plus their own due to war, white folks, and other shyt while Black folks really really mixed due to slavery, Jim Crow, and modern James S. Crow, Esq.

Them nikkas wasn't dealing with ease in African in the last 400 years. It's been hell there as well. Leopold killed more people than Hitler but since they were Black, did you hear about it. Almost all of these African wars are funded and controlled by Europe. The Drug/Street war here, controlled by America. More Black folks are in jail than enslaved. Does that make sense to you?

To me, too many of us don't want to be honest why we got anna. That's why you got nikkas talking about we different when in reality, we similar. We different, for sure but similar. But yeah, I get it, but sometimes, it doesn't make sense.

If we are honest, it would make sense even if it's not gonna change. Just being honest would get real feelings and hurt out there.

That's the case everywhere as many are part of the same satanic occults. I don't understand how you can say this and live in America as if we don't have many a nikkas who are the same and cacs who are absolutely the same and answer to the same King and Queen as they do in Africa.

Sometimes I read nikkas posts on here and think you nikkas live in lala land.

The push back comes because these people don't want to give Black Americans zero room to identify and distinguish ourselves.
