Steve Spurrier is reportedly retiring. Probably the second greatest coach in SEC history behind Bear Bryant. He completely revolutionized the game.

He was also king of the one liner. Here are some of the best:

1. On a fire at Auburn that destroyed 20 books: “The real tragedy was that 15 hadn't been colored yet."

2. Playing at Tennessee: “Will be the 14th time I've coached in Neyland Stadium. I've coached there more than some of their head coaches.”

3. On Tennessee: “You can't spell Citrus without U-T.”

4. On Tennessee QB Peyton Manning: “I know why Peyton came back for his senior year. He wanted to be a three-time star of the Citrus Bowl.”

5. On playing Georgia early in the season. “I sort of always liked playing them that second game because you could always count on them having two or three key players suspended.”

6. On whether Florida would beat Georgia: "Is Ray Goff still coaching there?”

7. When coaching Washington on hoping for consistent success against the Dallas Cowboys: “Hopefully [they can be] our Georgia.”

8. On Clemson: ""They’ve got a good team, but continue to not play very well when they play us for some reason."

9. On recruiting in Alabama: “In 12 years at Florida, I don't think we ever signed a kid from the state of Alabama. Of course, we found out later that the scholarships they were giving out at Alabama were worth a whole lot more than ours.”

10. On Florida State: “You know what FSU stands for, don't you? Free Shoes University.”

11. On Jadeveon Clowney getting a speeding ticket: “I didn't know Jadeveon's car that could go that fast. He doesn't have a pretty car like those FSU guys used to drive."

12. On Vanderbilt becoming a tough game: “They're not slow guys anymore.”

13. On Bobby Petrino: “Good football coach and had about as much fun as I did in the NFL.”

14. On coaching so long: “I forgot to get fired and I’m not going to cheat.”

I think he realized that. South Carolina at best was gonna be 4-8 or 5-7 this year. It is rare for a coach to retire or voluntarily step down mid season though, hope its nothing with his health

The Swamp
Spurrier coming back to play QB for us again. Gonna win that 2nd Heisman :gatorblessed:

But on the real, my favorite head coach of all-time. Quotables for days and a great guy. Grew up watching his offense and him build up the Gators. We were an average ass team until he came back and built The Swamp to what it is today. He's the reason we're relevant. Thank you, OBC :salute:

My favorite (paraphrasing): "You know, there's one type of Gator that they hate up in Tallahassee more than the Florida Gators--that would be an NCAA investigator"

I'm not bullshyt but I think he did it today to take the spotlighht off Grier and his Alma Mater. I'm bout 100% that's why. That mafukka a Gator through and through.
Breh that's ending his entire career just cause the Gators had fukked up personnel for like the 1000th time since he left. Dude would've been gone a long time just cause a Florida individual did something completely against the rules

Retiring and quitting are two different things, there's like no black HCs that have been coaching as long as Spurrier in the power five right now, so there's no real equivalent. Hell I don't know if there's been a black HC coaching this long in the major FBS ever.

The closest example would be a complete made up situation, but if Sumlin was at Texas A for like 10 more years, then he'd earn the right to retire whenever he wants like Spurrier. I'm fairly sure SCar has contacted guys and has been contacting guys for this and last season when it was obvious they weren't returning to glory.
