Probably not the right thread, but can someone tell me the difference between The House of Representatives and the Senate? I know they both make up congress but who takes care of what?

its exceedingly more likely for senate repubs to get blamed with all dems and the republican president is against them
fukk that :yeshrug: the president said we should do 2k checks and the democrats agreed with him. and it was trumps idea to stall for this; NOT the democrats. trump might get the blame himself

im quicker to blame the dems more than anyone in here, and even im not seeing how you guys are making that one happen :dead:
I agree with you guys in theory and I’m not trying to blame the Dems here, but I just don’t trust conservative voters to see it this way. They’ll rationalize anything even if it hurts them.

This reminds me of when RBG passed and people thought the GOP wouldn’t push for a new justice because that would be hypocritical after how they did Obama and Merrick Garland. Then people thought they would be punished at the polls. Rinse, repeat.
Why do you guys care which side the internet assigns blame to?! Step outside your house, nobody cares.
I’m not talking about the internet or assigning blame, I’m talking about how this will play out in the real world. I’m having trouble seeing how Republican voters won’t just buy the same old “both sides” story here. That’s what they do.

I hope I’m wrong and something finally sticks :hubie:

The main reason why Dems won’t get blamed is

1) Trump asked for “pork” from the spending bill to get removed while adding 1400 bucks to the checks, so any attempt at adding anything else (such as a liability shield) will looked at as another game Washington plays. Dems aren’t asking for any other changes.

In fact, Dem messaging should be “2 Grand for every American, no ifs, ands or buts”. And then it’s time for fear-mongering. “They want you to go back to work without the vaccine, while they get it, with a new strain coming and then if you get sick because your job doesn’t want to take precautions to keep you safe.... you have no recourse. They think your life is worth $1400?”

2) McConnell should have never forced the bills together. Now the messaging is that this is his deal, and everyone else is demanding better at this point (No matter how misguided the spending bill anger is). If he doesn’t budge, they lose in GA (Remember, both Dem campaigns have been careful to not tie the Republican candidates to Trump but to tie them to McConnell). This is going to hang around his neck forever.

3) They have to get Trump voters out to have a chance at winning. Mitch lives to make both sides look bad so that he gets what he wants AND can maintain power by any margin. He only relents if it puts him in danger to carry out his deeds. He’s kept Trump to heel to this point, but turning on him angered his supporters and now Trump realizes he’s been abandoned and he could have been a wild card all along. (What if he stopped nominating judges to get border wall funding? What if he refused to sign anything Mitch wanted to obtain leverage?) It’s too late to save himself, but what does he when he doesn’t perceive loyalty?
Good stuff, I appreciate the breakdown. Logically it makes sense, and I want to be wrong here, but I’m still hesitant to believe that this will stick to republicans after everything we’ve seen from them.

Its how it goes. After the stimulus passed all I saw over social media from conservatives was "look at this. all the dems are sending stimulus money to other countries! they hate america"

same shyt every time

I would suggest if you are over the age of 18 and don't know the answers to that question, first you tell your parents they failed at education and then dive face first into grand canyon.

The House and Senate need to both pass laws and spending bills like the omnibus bill that just got passed. Traditionally, spending bills originate in the House, get passed, and go to the Senate to be passed (or amended, which is something called reconciliation) next, then are signed into law by POTUS.

The Senate also has responsibilities besides this that are centralized in that body, like passing federal judges (including SCOTUS nominees).

That's the problem. Too many people out there with loud opinions about politics or worse, voting, without knowing how things work.

Which is why I think the response to dude was entirely too harsh. Never shyt on someone who admits their ignorance and who wants to correct it and become knowledgeable. Ignorance is a fact of life, but the difference between that poster and most people is that the former understands the power and worth of knowledge, and most other people just think their uninformed opinion is more important than any facts.
