And republicans have no incentive to pass legislation that's for the greater good as long as their supporters stand by them.
If the voters don't hold the republican party accountable they can literally do whatever they want. 1 man is blocking all the aid from happening. He simply dictates the terms a bill can reach the senate floor on and if they don't meet those terms a vote will never happen.

Mitch doesn't have to listen to anybody. Not even the members of his own party cause they're not gonna remove him from his position and the voters didn't vote him out.

How is a one time 1200-1500 check more effective than $1200/month in additional UI benefits to support the actual people who are suffering financially right now :what:

Yang still on his UBI conquers all bullshyt

Is he making that case? He’s been advocating for UI and stimulus checks on every media hit he’s done?

@the cac mamba was right after all:skip:
McConnell urged White House not to make a deal on stimulus bill ahead of election

No he wasn't. Here's a short recap:

In remarks at a closed-door Senate GOP lunch, McConnell told his colleagues that Pelosi (D-Calif.) is not negotiating in good faith with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin, and that any deal they reach could disrupt the Senate’s plans to confirm Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court next week. Republicans have voiced concerns that a stimulus deal could splinter the party and exacerbate divisions at a time when they are trying to rally behind the Supreme Court nominee. The comments were confirmed by three people who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss them

Pelosi, who last week was negotiating with Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin on a possible aid package, on Tuesday laid out what Democrats view as the shortcomings of the $1.8 trillion White House proposal, which also met resistance from Republicans in the U.S. Senate who say it is too large.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told Senate Republicans Tuesday that he urged the White House against making a deal on a large coronavirus stimulus bill ahead of the election, a source familiar confirmed to CBS News.

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said Friday that President Trump has "approved" a "revised" coronavirus relief package, although it's not yet clear what that means. Negotiations over a coronavirus relief package have gripped Capitol Hill for weeks, but President Trump earlier this week slammed the door shut on a deal before the election, although he later walked it back.

"When the president talks about wanting a bigger relief package, his proposal appears to mean that he wants more money at his discretion to grant or withhold, rather than agreeing on language prescribing how we honor our workers, crush the virus and put money in the pockets of workers,"

There was never a Deal. Just political posturing all around for the election, including putting the nomination of a Supreme Court justice of relief for citizens.

HL getting stupider by the week.

My god Nancy is an idiot :snoop: How can she be so tone deaf :francis:
Anybody can look and see that since the senate looks out of reach for the dems they have to give in on a bill. No one with common sense needs to be told that or why. Democrats thought they'd get the senate and could pass whatever and it's not going that way. I don't really get why she chose to frame it as because Biden's president it can be done as if to say she held out on a bill because she thought it would hurt Trump.

all youve done with this post is prove she should have taken it :dead:

you just posted proof that mcconnell was terrified of nancy taking the deal and having the senate republicans explicitly be the ones to turn it down. all she had to do was take the mnuchin bill, write "House" on it, and force the senate republicans to be the ones to shoot it down

No. McConnell said and I quoted that he would not bring it to a vote before the election and that he would bring a Covid bill at some point.

It was also quoted that he didn't have the votes within his caucus.

Your whole point was, just take a deal, no matter what's in it because, what do you have to lose.

It's idiotic at best. Largely because most of the additional funding, as I pointed out, was just corrupt discretionary spending for the Trump admin - - something you're seemingly okay with despite them not spending roughly 400bn in funds currently available and the massive amount of grift and fraud we already know about.

The same criticism she's getting today would be the same criticism back then.

You're permanently stuck on stupid with this one especially considering McConnell has already shot down the compromise bill.

But I get it you just hate the federal government giving money back to states that fund it. :stopitslime:

terrible post. i literally addressed this a million times because its the second half of why this was mostly a win/win scenario

-the deal passes, which was far better than what we're getting now
or
-the senate republicans turn it down, pelosi loses absolutely nothing, and the republican senate shoulders 100 percent of the blame for shooting down a stimulus bill for the american people. susan collins, ernst, thillis, all have to explain that vote to their voters

and maybe you can explain why mcconnell was "warning" mnuchin not to make a deal with pelosi?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/us-policy/2020/10/20/trump-economic-stimulus-pelosi/

because he was terrified of actually having to be the one to turn it down

instead, the repubs are literally still getting away with blaming punching bag pelosi :mjlol:

I found this little gem scrolling through twitter news on the stimulus package. If this is true all Schumer needs to do is round up the 48 dems and find just 3 willing GOP senators and we can get a big bill passed :ohhh:. Wtf are these people doing :mindblown:

could happen :ehh: we know romney will vote on the 900. he must have a couple more like him

Just in case that tweet gets deleted somehow

Constitutional fact: no one in the Senate actually has to listen to a word Mitch McConnell says or follow any unenforceable rules and 51 Senators can put any bill to a vote and vote it in as a law.

And yeah, :ohhh:

They have nothing to lose. Especially the ones that just won reelection (you got another 6 years locked up lol). We just need 3 repubs to vote for a big 2-3 trillion dollar bill that covers damn near everything this one time; then they can go back to their obstructive ways after :mjlol:
