to me it seems very risky to throw your money in the stock market now. shyt is a house of cards. it's being propped up, but you can't just prop it up forever.

jumping in while shyt is at an all time high, seems like a stupid move. good for people who ate good off the juiced numbers though.

It's sound as a long term investment. Short term, you may have a point.

I own and live in a Multi-family. You nikkas can’t tell me someone renting is in a better position than me

but I don’t want to de-rail the thread. I’m about to go ham with investing at the beginning of next year god willing
It’s not, but a lot of people overlook the practicality of multifamily. People tend to think rent or SFH more often than buy a duplex/tripled. I have a fourplex, live in one rent out the other three, I haven’t paid shyt toward my mortgage other than when I have vacancies.

this is why you invest in indices, they go up over time, even if this crashes, if you’re 50 and under, you’ll recover. Things get riskier with individual stocks, but even then you try to reduce it by picking solid blue chips like proctor and gamble, google, Microsoft, MasterCard. You only really get into the risk of losing big when you get into more advanced trading or trying to bet on what will breakout or chasing runs, especially in our current market.

ETFs you say?
:ohhh:
SPY is the gold standard etf. It mimics the S&P 500(top 500 publicly traded companies in the US).

It annualizes returns at 11-15%.

Many people try to beat it, through individual stock picking, but most fail(98%). :manny:

Can Anybody Beat the Market?

Right now in the boiler room a lot of people follow an investment company called ark invest, that has continually beat the s&p, with returns up to 40%, for the past 5 years.

As far as the argument of investing vs. real estate. I'm trying to do both. I've seen some nice gains over the course of the past few years and I'm on the path to $100k in savings for retirement+brokerage however despite that I still want to move into real estate.

So to hear the arguments from brehs in favor of either side over the other is interesting.

Multi-family homes are overpriced nowadays, in my local market at least. This may vary for other places of course.

If you can do both, do it. But I realize we’re a very different generation, people move a lot more, people want to “do stuff” as opposed to “have stuff” so I get the side who doesn’t care to own

Get rid of your robinhood account and go for tdameritrade (or anyone else for that matter)

Robinhood accounts are getting hacked and hackers are stealing people's money from said accounts. And there's no customer service to call about the issue. Charles schwab and tdameritrade have customer service 24/7

Robinhood Internal Probe Finds Hackers Hit Almost 2,000 Accounts

Robinhood servers crash whenever there is a heavier than normal amount of trading. So whenever the a big event is going on in the market (like a stock market crash) you won't be able to buy or sell stocks

Robinhood crashes for third time as markets tank
