This is Y u don’t tank. Develop ur young players, figure out who can hang in the league. And add to that. Tanking doesn’t work. And what do u know, the spurs are doing very well this season

Dallas by way of Houston by way of San Antonio
Season is halfway done.

18-14, 7th in the west. Goal is to be 6th or higher to avoid the play-in tourney, so we're only a game out of 6th.

I thought the Spurs had a chance to put a nice run together leading into the break, but then Covid hit the team and messed with the mojo. The biggest positive from that though has been the play of Luka Samanic. Before this past week, kid looked like a deer in the headlights anytime he got any NBA run. G-league don't mean shyt if you can't bring any confidence to the big show. Those first couple of games where Pop didn't have the bodies to bench Luka for the slightest mistake seems to have given him some confidence. He's not trying to play perfect basketball right now. I don't think it's too far off to say he can provide Rudy-level production for us if the minutes are carved out for him.

Lyles is another guy who got a chance to show some worth with the minutes. He was quietly our best (or at least 2nd best) player last night. If Patty doesn't start bricking everything in the 4th, we probably pull that game off.

I don't think it's any secret that the Spurs are trying to move Aldridge at the deadline. No way he re-signs here, and his offensive capabilities are overshadowed by how awful of a defender he's become. My concern is if the Spurs are trying to move him solo, teams will just call their bluff and see if he gets cut. But now, if you package Aldridge with say Trey Lyles, maybe that nets something more noteworthy.

Either way, happy with how the squad looks this season, and there's a lot of potential here with the young guys. Poetl looks to be worth his contract, and the Murray/White combo (in the limited time we've seen it) looks strong. Imagine a defensive (not starting) lineup of Murray, White, Samanic and Poetl (and mix in whoever as the 5th).

Looking forward to the 2nd half of the season.

Another loss where we let go of the rope and lose focus during stretches of the game.

Not getting stops consistently. I think it’s a lack of creativity in the scheme. These scoring guards don’t have to think when they are playing the Spurs. There’s never a trap or hard hedge. The guards always go over and the defensive bigs always sag. We gotta switch up pick and roll defense in-game sometimes. Throw a hard trap or something at these guards to make them hesitate/think for just a second.

Offensively there is no real game plan to exploit the other teams weakness. Luka and Porzingas are poor defenders that try to hide on secondary offensive players. There was never a real attempt to exploit their lack of lateral quickness or foot speed.

DeRozan was only guy going at Luka

Spurs consistently falter in late games. Can never get critical stops against other Western teams at their level or above.

Good game brehs

Keldon and Lonnie looked good tonight :dame:

I like Dejounte, but he's gotta be more than what he is. Seems like he's still really raw on offense. Or is this pretty much his offensive ceiling?

DJ doesn’t have a feel for the game and doesn’t value possessions. He’s still too loose with the basketball and doesn’t seem to have a goal to drive the team as the point guard. But that’s an indictment on the coaching staff.
