My parents were just extreme disciplinarians and stressed education from the moment we could learn. My mom and dad would routinely force us to do outside academic work and projects to augment our education. It was tough, but growing up i'm very thankful. All 5 of my brothers and sisters are high wage earning professionals, so the effort payed off. My parents just live off us now.

Asians(Indians too) are extremely pushed by their parents to bring the best of the best. Almost every one of them on my campus has a 3.6+ gpa. and above. Nearly all here are majoring in sciences(myself) or engineering with honors.
