Summary: A large-scale study has found that playing video games boosts cognitive abilities, but has no impact on mental health, while exercise improves mental well-being without affecting cognition. Over 1,000 participants completed cognitive tests after playing video games and completing a lifestyle survey.

The results showed that frequent gamers performed cognitively like people 13.7 years younger, while individuals who met WHO exercise guidelines were more likely to report lower anxiety and depression. This study offers valuable insights into the different ways video gaming and exercise influence brain health and mental well-being.
Key Facts:
  • Frequent video gaming improved cognition but did not affect mental health.
  • Exercise improved mental well-being but had no effect on cognitive abilities.
  • Gamers performed cognitively like people 13.7 years younger on average.

Playing video games may boost your cognitive abilities and exercise can play a role in improving your mental health, but not the other way around, a large-scale study has found.

I keep telling people our generation is going to see a decline in Dementia cases in old age, due to video games.
I feel like they are actually helping us to excercize our cognitve functions, problem solving, reflex tuning, memorization of patterns etc. All that has to be better for you then sitting around watching the news for 24 hours regurgitating the same talking points over and over.

The Truth
No shyt:beli:

I been trying to tell people this… especially single moms who complain thats all they kid does all day.

Sometimes just let them play and stfu. There are worse things they can be doing. Set a period of time along the day that they can do it, monitor or limit the toxic shyt and be done with it.

Even my niece plays Roblox, Minecraft, and etc., and she’s talented af. Already talks of her receiving scholarships to art school

I mean Elden Ring is a big ass metaphor for practice and problem solving and growing from challenging things that are larger than you, which you can apply to things outside of it

Same reason why you do countless FT10’s in fighting games—to learn

in America we mock people for failing a test even if they grow and do better each time. South Koreans who are the top of whatever niche they’re in always say they accept failing over and over so they can get the data and correct it.

I don’t think this is surprising. Video games are good for hand-eye coordination, as well - and many involve puzzle solving which is beneficial for cognitive skills and asymmetrical thinking

hell, even shooters are good for the aforementioned as well as slowing the decline of your reflexes etc.

video games are lowkey a “gym” for a lot of these things. Evidently, you have to mix in outdoor activities etc

should do both for the best mix of mental and physical health.
the thing about us 80s baby gamers. is we still went outside to play. because while we played video games. We weren't on our phones or Instagram all day.
Thats the stuff you should keep your kids away from. Too much internet.
buy your kids single player games only. don't get them involved in any lobby type shyt.
In my day a multiplayer game ment you need multiple controllers and had to invite friends to your house. And yall would do stuff outside when you finished.

You sure?

Not saying I don’t think they should or shouldn’t, I’m saying them playing video games doesn’t hurt them

Play whatever you want to play, but people who complains about video games are out of touch, and try to use it as something negative

:manny:I mean, kids manage to live all right without them for damn near a century, but I understand the perspective.
