When I listened to music as a kid, I didn't understand how artists were able to have "layers" of themselves singing in the same
parts of a song (I obv didn't know what overdubbing was) so I was always like "how are they singing all these notes at the same time?"
Or when emcees would be rapping another line before finishing the first I was like

I thought the other parts were sung by somebody with the exact same voice. So I wondered how they picked who got to be famous

Like, I didn't know what a cousin really meant, I thought it was black people slang for "friend of the family". I didn't understand that my cousin was my mom's brothers daughter. My white friends never had cousins visit, so I thought only black people had cousins
