This obsession this place has with finding ways to artificially reduce scoring by simply kneecapping the offense in completely arbitrary ways makes no sense at all. There’s no upside to mandating teams not be allowed to shoot a certain number of 3’s or that certain positions shouldn’t be allowed to shoot them. Forcing the game to remain as it was from the mid 90’s to the late 2000’s when half the players could barely dribble, pass, or shoot and when half the big men couldn’t do any of those things at all wouldn’t draw more fans to the product.
Everyone thinks things were better when they were younger.
But almost always just nostalgia. They were young. That's what they enjoyed. That's gone now, and they're just afraid to admit that it sucks to lose that.
People got enjoyment out of the NBA in 1995. But they also got enjoyment out of the NBA in 2015. And in 1985. There no such thing as this magical window where everything was perfect and one day it was all terrible the way people like to pretend. It's like life. You think being 17 was the shyt when you're 30. And when you're 67 you're gonna think being 30 was great.
All this stuff is evolving, constantly.
The current NBA game isn't perfect and things will change. I'm sure at some point 3 point shooting might come down. And if it does, people will find some new trend in the NBA to complain about. I have zero doubts about that.
