I know thats why i said its furthest along. They are going to open a Brewery there too in the near future

You can thank the dude my screen name is named after for that one breh. He the real reason the West End was never really that bad. Breh kept a lot of that foolishness out the hood. Him and the people he was with did not play the radio AT ALL. They wasn't about calling the cops. If you wasn't from the West End and you was out there making moves, when the sun went down you were going to get seen about. No ifs, ands or buts.

The opposite is happening in Cleveland, and it's kind of odd.
The wealth is moving further and further out of the city, and while they're trying to gentrify the 30 or so blocks around Cleveland Clinic in the hood, everyone that can afford it is trying to get out to the far East and far-West suburbs.
It would be a great time to be buying property here, especially by Case Western, East Cleveland, and the Heights,

Also businesses don't buy in black areas in atlanta. You'll be hard press to find whole foods and sprouts in the black suburbs. They planned for this long ago though.....:mjcry:

Yeah they do that on purpose; In Bmore city, there is whole food,Harris teeter and safe-ways in the affluent areas of the city Downtown/Inner harbor, Canton/fells point. but on west side where majority of black live there arent any large grocery stores shyt is crazy. these mom and pop stores don't sell healthy food either, unfortunately this contributes to an unhealthy population of black people. Its so obvious its disgusting.

It's crazy how the historically black neighborhoods in Atlanta (ie O4W) is shifting toward more white people living there. It's not naivety, I know it's gentrification, but this is actually happening in my lifetime, BEFORE MY EYES, and I'm only 25.

Man go to Krog Street on a weekend lol

Hell i remember summer 2007 i interned at City Hall east and O4W was nothing but junkies and stuff, now the area is totally different. There are still a few hood apartments left around north ave but still.

folks been sleeping for damn near a decade. outta 5 black folks from VA down to SC, 1 would say they'd move to the DMV... the other 4 would say atl. doesn't get the publicity Atl does.

Atlanta is about to reach critical mass with black folks who go there with an income less than a certain amount, and no upward trajectory to break that threshold. time to evaluate other options. Fux with Atl heavy, and folks appreciate the open arms, but it's weekend mini vacay and speical event status to me. Shyt, you could post up from thursday to sunday and get the experience. Half the folks moving to Atl can't even enjoy the city experience like that because their bread is iffy... if you can't enjoy the city when you want to, and you're not using the city's rich, black networking opportunities, then what's the point?

Boy you gon get taxed for that Midtown loft...:whew:...

But if you can afford it tho...:salute:

Hood suburb for sure.

Six figure suburbs can have the same cookie cutter feel, but the houses and landscaping are just:banderas: ... Pristine shyt. I'd argue that upper middle class suburbs feel more soulless, however. Just reeks of pill poppin, van driving, wine sippin' soccer moms whose husbands are likely having affairs.

Exurbs are the wave if you're caking.

The DMV is mostly white collar and 9-5 type shyt. And it's hella expensive. ATL is way more conducive for the hustle. Yeah it's hella white collar shyt here but it's also a ton of dudes getting money on they on. On a deeper level the chakras in this city are just aligned with making money and hustling. It's only natural that ATL would get more attention. I fukk with DC heavy myself. But for a non cert holding cat like me it just wouldn't work. I know all y'all Coli nikkas caked up with degrees and certs on the wall but in real life that's not the case. Last I checked most of us nikkas out here don't have degrees and didn't come from a whole bunch of money.

it seems that a lot of cities are trying to reclaim their downtown, and do that by pricing out the poor blacks that were formerly there. then they ship em out to the suburbs where they are like :gladbron: only to realize that those places are so car dependent and lacking the transporation infrastructure of the city rendering them "poor" while still living in a "nice" suburb.

thread is looooooooong overdue...I always chuckle at these threads with black folk so thirsty to move to Atlanta :usure:...speaking of thirst didn't they just have a water shortage a few summers ago? :why:
I also remember a national news story a few years ago about the job outlook for the country and they showed a "career fair" event going on in the city.....the line to get into that fair had to extend for a good half-a-mile with people not able to get in before the fair ended:martin: and to add insult to injury, one of the career fair spokesmen that they interviewed got on TV and said that they were having the fair to "boost morale" :martin: - in other words most of the employers at the fair were not actually offering jobs :martin:

This is the point of most job fairs though. They get you out of the house and offer "hope".

Have you lived in Atlanta before? Your answer just kinda feels like a rote, cookie cutter answer you could give about any decent to mid size city in America

And I'm not throwin shade on your comments, but I just feel like there are more dynamic factors at work in Atlanta than a more simplified answer like yours speaks to

Not if we start buying up shyt. We're powerless as renters.
I don't understand why our people don't connect and make moves. Once you see the seeds of gentrification being planted, we should have already been on top of it buying income property to rent out to these hipsters. If there isn't a grocery store, collaborate and make moves to bring one to the area. One of the things I noticed black folks won't do is attend City Hall meetings. Them shyts is crucial to the future of your community. If you aren't owning anything and seeds are being planted for an overhaul, get ready to commute because of unaffordable housing. Not to mention you arrive about to share housing with section 8 niccas. I ain't having that. Same thing is happening in the Bay area. Niccas need to start thinking about the future. They pushing black folk out of Oakland and into Stockton and antioch. 2500 square foot homes with niccas out front smoking weed, pants sagging, killing the property value. School systems are terrible. Nicca gotta make a 60 mile commute 1 way. I made that commute and I'll never do it again. I don't understand how uninformed so many of our people are and the knowledge about what they are planning is publicly accessible

I put part of the blame on the black middle class. They get money and move out the hood, then buy a 50 or 60k car to commute an hour each way.

It makes no sense

My sister lives in kirkwood, in Atl, she paid a grip for the house, but she doesn't have to sit in traffic all day, and being able to walk to the Marta station is wonderful.

Whats funny is Black people could turn Downtown ATL into a Harlem type area And extension to the westside. Downtown ATL has a ton of empty buildings for sale, the issue though is black folks tend to not want to put in the dirty work like other groups and build something up and go through the transition stages and what comes with it, we tend to move in to stuff once its already hot and inflated.

Canada and the US were always the anomalies. Cities in the Western World and China (Europe, Australia, South Africa)

The wealthy, powerful and (usually) white, almost always live in the city centers. Made them close to the nexus of finance, culture, resources and trade. Leaving immigrants and the poor to often live in the suburbs AWAY from the epicenter of power and away from the tourist attractions.

In the US our wealthy would often move to the burbs to get away from nikkas. But such is not so in the rest of the world.

This is the end goal of Gentrification. Push the poor(black) folks to the burbs where there is less respurces, high crime, harder transportation. That is essentially what has been done in Paris. All the ghettos are in the banlieue. Police rarely go there and the minorities are left to fend for themselves. shyts fukked up.

man this shyt is happening everywhere. that's why I prefer to live in the city. public transporation is EVERYWHERE, and if I had an office job downtown, I simply walk two blocks and ride the train for 30 minutes.
