You don’t know the war going on in someone else’s mind so you can’t tell them that it’s selfish.

That’s if the person has mental issues.

If they’re just in a rough spot and don’t want to deal with it then it’s selfish.

Thank you for this thread OP.

I also believe that committing suicide is the most selfish and cowardly way of ending your life.

People that does that do not be thinking of the long time grief that they will cause to their family and other loved ones.

I'm sorry that Regina King lost her son, but was he even thinking about what pain he would cause her before committing suicide?

Long term grief to their family? :hhh:

Born alone, die alone. Your life is your struggle and is yours to live as you see fit. No one else is going to carry your burden or feel your pain. No one else can live your life for you. If they don't have anyone they're responsible for then why should someone live their life in suffering just to keep other people from feeling sad?

Who are you to decide if someone else's life is worth living? Eye of the beholder. You have your own perspective and obviously don't know or aren't able to comprehend what goes on in the mind of a suicidal person.

What's selfish is expecting other people who don't want to be here to stick around just so you aren't sad.

And yeah, OP. More justification. People who take themselves out "justified" it in their mind that it was the best solution to their problems, permanent as it may be. You ever known anyone whose life was a constant mental and emotional struggle? People get tired. Not everyone can be as SOLID and RIGHTEOUS with as much PERSEVERANCE as you

That's the thing - we don't know. So maybe shut the fukk up before judging him?
So maybe he was an example?
So maybe I’m really talking to you and whatever you’re going through?

Even at my darkest moments, I never considered suicide. When I was broke and penniless, suffering from a shattered heart, or at a loss for my purpose in this world, not once did the possibility of ending my life cross my thoughts.

I’ll never understand the mindset that drives a person to kill themselves, and I hope I never do.

this.

that shyt aint even on the list of options. there is always a way out unless you are back against the way in pain with some terminal illness.

this breh was in his mid 20s. he wasn't alone out here and out of options.

The fact that you have no clue about his life or what he was going through already invalidates everything you just said.

There’s one person and their current state verses everyone they know who will have to carry that burden and the question of whether or not they “did enough”

Call it selfish if you want, but which one is more selfish?

But see:

1) they don’t have to, though.

2) somebody can only help somebody carry a burden; they can’t carry their load for them.
So if somebody decides they have had enough and want to put their load down,
that is entirely their prerogative.

3) Doesn’t everybody have to be a little selfish sometimes to really get what they want?
I mean, I don’t think people generally refrain from things out of concern that other people might feel bad...

You need to be in someone’s shoes before you can really opine with such confidence.

I think about Robin Williams who took his life cuz of Parkinson’s. At the time of his death, i viewed his suicide with similar sentiments as OP.

However, a couple of years ago, I had a change of heart when I had a medical challenge where my nervous system was implicated.

There was a night where I endured hellish levels of pain. Then and there I understood why someone would want to end their life in the face of sickness.

I imagine it must be the same with mental afflictions
