That's what some of the Coli brehs fail to understand.

In tech, as an African American, you are isolated.

You see all your Indian co-workers huddled up for lunch, Chinese huddled up, cacs huddled up, etc.

Right off the bat, you're up against steep odds in terms of having the same access to written and unwritten information by virtue of a lack of a natural network of peers. Which folks in other groups readily share among their own. Not to mention a lack of mentors who look like you, etc.

Then, the few nikkas actually around get on their :mjpls: shyt in an effort to not appear too Black!

How many of you Coli brehs actually see Black people--African Americans specifically--at your jobs openly having lunch together? 5 to 10 deep? :mjpls:
got damn this is true as fukk.

my grad program is basically a feeder for a lot of these tech companies. im one of the "smartest" in my class as a black woman in a room of asians and a few whites.

the asians never speak english unless they want help with something or unless your a super cool black person (aka me for the moment) that they can get some street cred or somethin from. but even they have a hierarchy, like the non chinese speaking asians get shafted or if you dont c++, even if youre asian, they aint hangin out with you on some deep shyt.

to the point where i spend most time to myself/not with them mfs bc you can literally feel the jealously when you accomplish something good. ive had so many things stolen from me or people shyt on my ideas clearly hating on a good as idea, bc im a black woman, while being cool af with their friend's mediocre ass idea.

i also know that i will never wok at a google or apple or any kind of super huge tech company, bc they def control everything you do once you sign that contract. and the work environment at these places is so hostile and competitive. they encouraging shytting on your co-workers in hopes that it makes you a better worker. thats why you had amazon breh jumping off a 22 foot building irrational af lol aint no freelancing if you want to take time from work. they literally own you and anything you do our make or code becomes property of that company

silicon valley aint for black people especially black people who are interested in changing the status quo for black people..

Underlying genetic vulnerability exacerbated by hostile conditions.

Either way I completely understand where he's coming from because he felt if Uber fired him he'd have a scarlett letter (especially rejecting a bid from Apple and potentially burning that bridge) become permanently unemployed, have his Wife divorce him and have to endure what the average Black Man has to deal with. Going in and out of jail from back child support and being a "has been" is a worse feeling than a "never was" because you remember when times were good and your Wife still wanted to fukk you and your kids looked up to ya.

Many of yall won't understand that a fall from grace is something that White Men fear worse than death and a Black Man typically will never have the "privilege " of experiencing. But when we fall we typically statistically don't get back up. His liabilities were high (Wife, 2 kids and mortgage) and leverage is low (affirmative action, declining white guilt and Patel Jr. H1-B ready chomping at his heels to take his job and perform at 65% for 50% of his pay).

Investigative reports will reveal he got put on a PIP and they gonna be paying OUT DEE AZZZ for this bullshyt...

A lot of yall don't realize how vulnerable brothers in Corporate Amerikkka are. One wrong move and we get knocked out the box for good. I've gotten fired early in my career was able to pivot back even stronger and laid off recently and came back from the dead again. But I'm in NYC and not Wonderbread capital of the world SF. And my fixed liabilities are low (No mortgage, no kids)

Have I thought of it at least 2x in my life ? Yes. And if you say you haven't then you're lying or never were up or had anything to lose to begin with. I have a Samurai mentality though. As I rather die by my own hand then utilized as a warm body in a White man's jail cell for being homelessness or other trumped up charges. Men in general but especially in America our identity is in our production. If we don't produce anything -We're considered dead by our Women. This man was on the verge of being let go and likely already reached out to recruiters on the low who gave him the run around and shuck jive two step. He probably concluded he'd be viewed as unemployable in the next couple of years lose everything and then what's the point in becoming another Black Male broke underemployed statistic?

I wish I had answers. My only solution is don't reproduce until you can feed your liabilities (Wife, kids, home) without full time employment. These days that's a cool MILLION easy....Good fukking luck.

You are spot on, breh.

Black men don't have networks to help us get back up when we fall.

When we fall, we are typically knocked out for good.

Suicicide is coward shyt, especially if you have a family.

There is nothing you could do to hurt your family more.
I dont give a fukk if they were calling him ****** every day of the week, you dont do that to your family.

You quit and do something else.
Cottenelle soft generation, this disgusts me :scust:

All that being said... probably something else was going on...

Now you have a traumatized single mother with a bunch of traumatized kids who will carry this with them for the rest of their lives.

Spot on.

What you're experiencing in grad school is magnified in industry.

The ethnic cliques that look out for their own, share written and unwritten information among their own, advocate for their own, etc.

Black people don't have that. And when nikkas do get in a position to have influence, they get on some :mjpls: shyt in an effort to not be seen as too Black or preferential in their treatment of other Black people. Other groups don't give a shyt. They look out for their own.

The people dismissing what this breh went through at Uber would never understand, as they've never been in competitive "feeder" undergrad or grad programs in which Black people are a rarity.

And they haven't worked for major tech companies.

I'm sorry IT cert, brehs. Working IT support isn't the same as being under pressure in a P&L center at a major tech company.

exactly.

its like 5 other black girls in my program across two years and we stick together and always check in to talk about what projects we are working on and if we can help each other cause we know they aint fukkin with us like that.

its still some c00ns though. i got one friend from the same program (black guy) who only hangs around the asians, calls them his friends and everything. one of the black girls tried to hang out with him bc she liked him, and all he did was ignore her, but still chasing after the asians. well, a year post-graduation, none of them have hooked him up with a job, my nikka still broke as fukk, and just be on instagram all day staying at home. cant even garner the emotional fortitude to compile his portfolio

its like he played into the inferiority complex passed on to him from our social conditions. i had to stop hanging around him bc his mentality had changed to being this guy just around for whatever his asian friends told him to do. and i truly feel thats exactly what the work environment for most blacks in tech unless they can mentally take it.

Be mentally ill brehs

Blame racism brehs

Apparently this was too real for the coli

We survived countless atrocities
But we get a pass to kill ourselves if whites are mean at work?

Dude had issues, couldn't deal

:pacspit:

The weakness here amazes me

You must be one of them cac folk. Cracking racist jokes about minorities to loosen ppl up is usually never entertaining and firing minorities that don't laugh at your corny jokes or entertain you is even more unsettling. It's called racism and those ppl have tables to feed, they don't like you.

Man shut yo zesty ass up

Petty Vandross.. fukk Yall
Stop shytting on other industries as if racism isn't associated with other occupations..
As long as you are black in America, there is nowhere you can run to avoid the bullshyt..
That's why you have to create your own lane and currency..
As long as you work for others, no matter the field, shyt will be hard and competitive and lonely..
I'm feel bad for breh on the level of the immense pressure he was feeling..
Thats the everyday struggle of black people around the globe but people still grind and find ways to keep enjoying life..
His sons should have been his light..
It's hard to see when your in it, I get how he was feeling because I've been there.
I was close myself but then you start thinking and picturing loved ones at your funeral..
I wish he would have seeked help(I did myself). Breh seemed hella intelligent and could have started his own consulting firm, so many other solutions. Granted getting angel investors could have been harder to come by and living in Pittsburgh (which is a suburb outside of SF) might not have been possible to do on a smaller income, it's better than death and leaving your children without that male direction they need.
You can have all the mentors, uncles in the world but not having your biological fathers words can have a lasting effect..
Just sad all around..
