I think every Summer Walker project sucks as a listening experience

she is talented and can make great songs

IWas holding on saying this because I haven't heard Summer in a while, but listening to the first few tracks she reminds me of a poor man's SZA vocally.
Which is far from a complement because I don't consider SZA that great of a vocalist, but her song writing is of a much higher calibre.

Yea, SZA can’t really sing but she’s top notch as an artist and songwriter. CTRL was top notch from an artistic direction. Varies themes and sound which makes up for the average vocals.

R&B artists ain’t coming out the church like they used to. The vocal quality is noticeable.

If you look back, a good number of the greats got their start singing in their church choir and honed their vocal ability.

That was a masterful move to have that old school usher sample then Usher himself comes thru wit the GOAT vocals.

One of the best albums this year. Right up there with Anderson Paak's imo.

And here in lies the "problem" with this project. This album is 14-16 tracks of CPR/Girls Need Love with re-arranged production. I think London produced the entire album so after a while the beats sound very repetitive. Again, I feel like this is a cool album to chill to with a shawty and what not but I don't think this project will give Summer that elevation as an artist in the same way Ctrl did for SZA.

I know the album just came out, but even after one listen I'm not seeing much replay value. With Ctrl, I knew there were some tracks I'd have to revisit even off the first listen. TDE did a very good job on that project.

Nah, I don't think people are hating, but the album just feels formulaic, it leaves a lot to be desired. I first heard Summer Walker on CPR and I thought "Ok, this chick has some potential, I'll be on the look out for her".

This album doesn't explore too much outside of that 'CPR' type sound.

I wasn't even a SZA fan but once I heard Ctrl I could not deny the quality of that album front to back.
