Nintendo is too cheap to take a loss. They aiming for profits out of the gate on their consoles which explains their garbage ass specs.
Nintendo doesn't have other revenue streams to afford to take losses like Sony and Microsoft
in reality having a company like Microsoft with virtually unlimited funds coming in was eventually going to kill a company like Nintendo...and it actually immediately killed Sega because they knew there were too many systems coming out for them to profit
Nintendo only does games they don't make TV's or Software
the Wii was genius because they knew the only way to compete with the companies with more money was to differentiate themselves but the wii u was failure to capitalize on this new segment they created because instead of going the next step with motion controls they jumped on the tablet craze but I immediately knew that a tablet controller would not translate to a groundbreaking experience and they needed to come out with an oculus rift type device but i don't think tech was ready for such an underpowered system
I think Nintendo lasts one more gen or two until they decide to be a software only company sadly
