Considering that it had supply shortages and was released in March, it's doing better than the 3DS and 1 million short of what the Wii did.

And all of this without releasing on the holidays.

nintendo is never gonna do sony/ms numbers in console sales anymore. Only on handhelds. Nintendo home consoles are just for niche/fanboys at this point

That's not a low number at all. The Switch is among the fastest selling consoles of all time.
Only Wii, PS4 and 3DS have hit that number faster.
PS4 shipped 13.5 mil in it's first 12 months, they're forecasting beyond that.
Realize that this number is from March 3rd (launch date) to Sep. 30 (end of Nintendo's fiscal quarter).
So, those sales don't include Mario's launch and the upcoming holiday, which is when consoles sell the bulk of their sales

Except they are on pace to sell as well as PS4's first year and way beyond MS, which is quickly becoming a non-factor in the console market

The system just hit wide availability in August. There's been shortages on the components used to make them including the flash memory. Also it has yet to see its first holiday season.

My Christmas gift to myself is the Switch with Breath of the Wild, Odyssey, Xenoblade 2, and Sonic Mania.

Feeling like a little kid again. Can't wait. Gaming is back in a big way with Sony and Nintendo leading the way.

why only 7 million switch sales though? Seems like the demand is there, is it just low in production? Is Nintendo purposely creating a drought ?

They are expecting it to be 15 million I think by the end of the year or sometime next year but from everything I read this has already surpassed the success of their last system and a projecting big numbers for the future
