Fake outrage from TLR :unimpressed:.

If the artists wanna pay to showcase themselves let them do that :manny: and as far as the exposure element she may have a point when it comes to ppl who may not have any knowledge of particular genres of music and the artists that come from it.

How many old ass cacs at NFL games honestly know a Mary J. record or let alone a Hip-Hop song?

That's what she means by exposure as there's going to be ppl in that audience who don't relate to the culture of R&B or Hip-Hop but maybe after the performance some may seek out more of that genre of music.

Aren't they usually offset by a sponsor? That's why its usually "presented by..." and such. Not like they're coming out of pocket for the most part.

The same way songs become popular from Tik Toks and or challenges, Gen Zers aren't familiar with it like it and stream it. Or people who remember the song forgot about it and stream it. That Ocean Spray, skateboard man is a great example.

NPR Cookie Consent and Choices

A lot of youngins nowadays hear renditions or remixes of famous songs and think the rendition/remix is the original :mjlol:

the exposure argument is invalid because by the time you get to the level to perform at the super bowl (which is for the most part only broadcast in america), you're more than likely huge and/or growing.

but im personally not invested in :cape:for celebs.

The NFL broadcasts the superbowl in over 100 countries and we just had a thread where a kid said Motownphilly was sung by Outkast. There is always a new generation to get put on and no better exposure than the super bowl.

Mary just put an album out. I haven’t heard enough people talking about it. She can use this exposure even if it’s temporary. It’ll help all the artists actually

I wouldn't care if I was an artist thats a football fan

They'll each likely do 1-2 songs, if that. They'll work like 10 mins.

It's not like they're being overworked
Ten minutes? Do you know the time that goes into prepping for these performances? And the cost of the production

I thought this was common knowledge like paying for a star on the Hollywood walk of fame (50k sponsorship fee or whatever). Anyone who performs at the super bowl has paid millions to do so, it ain’t cheap at all
If I were to get myself a minor role in a tv show I would be throwing 50k at ‘em :patrice:

There is no bigger stage than the Super Bowl. That’s worth a whole lot. I’m fine with them not getting paid. If they are upset about it there are 1000s of other artists that would be happy to take their places
