You're on drugs. Superman is the immigrant and he decided on his own that he's here to protect, serve and inspire hope. He's the immigrant. Should I repeat that he's the immigrant?
You're just as bad as the MAGA crowd trying to see shyt that isn't there Pa Kent even reiterated that Clark has always been the way that he is because in his heart, that's who he is.
Yeah, Superman is an "immigrant" with the powers of a god that was sent to subjugate humanity. As a human living in the DCU, why should I fully trust Superman?
99.9% of people in the DCU don't know Superman personally, nor do they know about his upbringing with the Kents.
The Els message completely undercuts the message of the movie, whether you agree or not
I think this is a solid 6, its a nice summer popcorn flick but this aint a top 10 comic book movie. I'd be in for a sequel depending on villain (Braniac ).
I think this universe could do him justice.
Thoughts as I watched:
Pros:
Supes gave a solid performance, I saw much more of the boy scout in his personality.
Jumping into an already setup universe was a great choice
Mr. Terrific was a great addition, he def added some personality without being over the top goofy
Lex was solid, he def got better as the film went on
This Lois is a major upgrade over Amy Adams
The Engineer had a dope on screen powerset
Cons:
Krypto was fukking annoying
2nd Act was boring af
They showed too much in the trailers
They could've toned down the country bumpkin on Pa & Ma Kent just a bit
Fight scenes were a bit meh
Green Lantern was all around trash, costume was terrible, (and im glad lois got on his haircut, nasty work)
Do i like MOS better, yes (better lore and action) but I think this is a good foundation moving forward

It didn't undercut anything. Why should Superman be trusted? Maybe because for the last three years and counting he's done everything in his power to save humanity from all types of metahuman shyt.
Ask the Jarhanpur if they trust Superman
It's like you didn't watch the movie.... This is my last reply, you just felt like arguing today
You have reached the point where your anger is causing you to not understand what you actually saw.
The problem Superman had wasn’t deciphering the message, it’s that he didn’t have access to the entire message. Remember, the engineer is the one who came and unlocked the whole thing. Supergirl wasn’t around during the entirety of this story.
Also Superman has been saving these people for years at this point. This isn’t day 1, he has earned their trust for the most part. Actions speak louder than words, if he wanted to do what was mentioned in the latter part of that message could have already started.
If the message is real and true, then that means one of 2 things: Kryptonians as a whole view themselves as conquerors and have supremacist views, or Jor-El and Lara had a completely different mindset from other Kryptonians.
I doubt the latter would be true, and the former is a b@stardization of Kryptonian society. According to James Gunn himself, this version of Supergirl lived on Krypton for the first 14 years of her life (she's currently 21). So she would have knowledge of both the Kryptonian language and the Kryptonian belief system, unlike Superman. She can substantiate the veracity of the message.
Supergirl knew both Jor-El and Lara; they were literally her uncle and aunt, lol. So she should know whether or not the message is something they would actually think and believe. James Gunn better resolve this BS in a good way in the Supergirl movie.
Personally, I don't have a problem with the message. I think the El's view us as lesser, backwards people and someone from their society can improve and advance us to be more Krypton like, and for their son to keep the kryptonian blood line alive.
But it'll probably be revealed it was a bad translation to make it come off as nefarious.
Gunn will for sure pivot in a way because this message seems to be picking up steam in a negative way somewhat. It can easily be fixed if Braniac is introduced and if we do get a Supergirl/Superman teammup movie after hers.

He (Gunn) better come up with an alternative, how can he embrace his kryptonian heritage with a message like that from his people. Also in turn wouldn’t this have him question Kara’s motives. I mean I know his very trusting and seemingly optimistic to a naive point in this universe but he will need to have a sit down with her. I really hope Gunn is just saying things to not give story beats away because I really hate this.
I'm really trying to see how they address this with Supergirl I understand why fans don't like it. I'm more a fan of the kryptonians being altruistic like the animated series. I let it rock because I love the way this Superman is portrayed.
*Superman can easily ask Supergirl to verify the contents of the message after the plot twist reveal.
*OK, we as the audience know that Superman is good. A human IN THE DC UNIVERSE doesn't know that. There's no reason to fully trust Superman after the Els full message is allegedly revealed. Lex Luthor's hatred of Superman goes from unjustified to at least partially justified.
What amazes me is that yall cant see this offers up far more interesting dynamics and relationships. Not sure how you can "hate" something that does that
Yes he should be looking at Supergirl sideways and not trust her fully. Because she may secretely be plotting to take over earth. Also adds a interesting dynamic if Zod shows up. She may be open to the idea of kryptonian takeover.
Or Maybe she didnt tell Clark because shes a woman, and in their culture Clark would be her lord too.
Yes,Lexes hatred of Superman being partially justified is more interesting than it being completely unjustified.
And last but not least, none of you have shown how this is the same message from Invincible. His parents never say to genocide humans at all. They tell him to become earths king and to guide humans. Theres nothing evil about that considering the way humans run it now. In fact they called humans stupid. Which could mean they hate the idiotic wars and violence and want Clark to police earth. Which essentially is what he was already doing in Boravia.
All they did was tell him the honest truth. Which is he will have to crack a few eggs to actually make people like Lex and other evil people to do what you tell them. Did we not see they were correct? The Boravian president didnt give a shyt about Superman and that cactus because he knew Superman wouldnt actually take it further.
This is what you call interesting world building. What convos could be had if their message was the same typical black and white "be good" message. The message is very much in that grey area. The message is open to interpretation. So Gunn saying the message is real doesnt mean anything either way. Because the message is without context. Superman just jumps to the same conclusions that humans would hearing that message.
Personally, I don't have a problem with the message. I think the El's view us as lesser, backwards people and someone from their society can improve and advance us to be more Krypton like, and for their son to keep the kryptonian blood line alive.

Kryptonians believing humans are inferior and backwards is fine. Kryptonians believing in conquest & racial supremacy is NOT fine.
According to this comment, Gunn says there's no more to the story:
I hate this and don't know why Gunn is doing this. It's very common in Gunn's projects for him to make biological fathers trash and adoptive fathers good/better than the bio fathers.
I never thought that he would do this with Superman and Jor-El
