There's no emotional weight to this movie.

OMG Lex kills the halal cart guy and I'm supposed to feel something as Superman cries in despair:mjlol:

The Pa Kent scene was the only one. The rest of those had no real weight. Doesn't matter if there wasn't an immediate quip when the next scene is silly. The tone of this movie never maintained any semblance of seriousness. I guarantee you can time anything you listed and there won't be 5 minutes that pass before something silly happens.

The whole scene with Jimmy and Eve meeting in the alley is probably sandwiched between something on your list and that scene was good awful.

It’s a comic book movie heavily inspired by the cartoons

I was expecting something a bit more epic, honestly.

Movie was good and much different vibe than the Synder verse I still don’t like the suit it just doesn’t slap

I actually appreciated this aspect. The whole Snyderverse always was way too serious at all times. Constantly felt like a rushed Marvel MeToo from the very beginning. Always a bunch of random forced tragedies rushing to get to Justice League. All just so they could try to catch up and cash in on what Marvel built carefully and strategically over a long period of time. Ruined what could've been a great cinematic universe with strong characters

I like the approach of this new director. This Superman was just fun to watch. Wasn't trying to be some epic Avengers all in one go. I'm sure there will be future films that strike a more serious tone, but this was a good first step

DO NOT WATCH TV OR TURN THE CHANNEL WHEN A TRAILER POPS UP!

Man I’m home watching TV now and a commercial just aired that showed a BUNCH of shyt from the mid ending part of the movie:mjlol:

Im like “GOTDAMN, they really showing this, this soon???!”
I was lucky enough to see it Tuesday. Since yesterday tiktok has been especially ruthless. Straight climax, ending and post credits

Just finished.

This was fantastic.

The only thing that felt off was the media coverage when we learn about Superman & the scenes that followed. It felt contrived & a bit over the top but other than that?

Excellent.

The acting was really fukking good. You can’t replicate the chemistry each actor had while on screen.

There’s only a hand full of times I’ve watched a comic book movie and felt like I was watching a living comic book, this is one of those times.

I don’t understand any of the early reviews calling it a mess or “goofy” or any of that shyt and it’s precisely why I stopped giving a fukk about them.

It leans heavily on a cartoon style and the tone works exceptional. It’s a 180 from the Snyder films and thank god for it. If you can’t enjoy a superhero movie that’s rooted in the essence of what made you actually enjoy it as a child, then yes you’ll probably be cynical and not be able to appreciate it.

James Gunn just understands Superman and has this ability to humanize characters.

Everytime Supes gave speeches and just talked, I believed him. He’s literally Goku, a kind idiot who fukks up but is actively trying to do better. He’s a guy who cares about everyone, squirrels and even the enemies he just fought.

Gunn understood Guy, Clark, Superman, Papa Kent, Mr Terrific (stole the show), Lois Lane, Jimmy Olsen and made everyone fit in a modern setting. This was also the best representation of Lex Luther to date, his intelligence, his prone to violence when frustrated, his obsessiveness clouding his intellect.

The dynamic with him and Krypto was fine, the humor was great, theater was cracking up with the quips.

Speaking of, I’m sorry but superhero films are allowed to have jokes. I’m tired of this bullshyt that just because MCU, Disneyify how they do humor, that any superhero movies is only allowed a number of times. One small negative is it did run a bit long, could’ve taken off 15 mins.

Best superhero film I’ve watched since Across The spiderverse.

8/10

I have never been a fan of any Superman movies or the character in general, he really is a dull uninteresting character. Yet, Gunn actually made him compelling while maintaining his corny and square nature. He also hid the weaknesses of the character by putting compelling character in his orbit and a world that felt alive and vivid. This is by far the best Superman movie of all time and the best characterization of the character in the modern era.

I put most of the blame on the WB executives that wanted to ride the Marvel train.
To me, this Superman felt like what Cavill's Superman would've ended up as. Both felt like the Superman/Kent I grew up reading in the early 90s which makes sense since Gunn stated he was reading the entire John Byrne's run and that he is friends with Zach Snyder
