It's not just China. Hollywood lost Russia also for obvious reasons and South Koreans don't go to the theater anymore due to streaming over there.

'Ant-Man' way back a decade ago made something like $175M with those three countries combined. If it came out today, that number would drop to like $20M combined.

YOU CANT KEEP MENTIONING
THOSE 3 COUNTRIES WHILE
COMPLETELY IGNORING INFLATION...

INFLATION HAS BALANCED
EVERYTHING OUT
SO THESE MOVIES SHOULD
STILL BE DOING STUPID NUMBERS

I don't think so. I'll give you an example. 'Captain Marvel' made $217M from China/Russia/South Korea alone. Obviously the sequel was complete ass but I used 'Captain Marvel' because it's a C-tier character at best. Inflation wouldn't make up for that.

Nah it aint reaching 400.

I said it would approach it.

MAN OF STEEL DID
89MS IN THOSE 3 COUNTRIES...
AND 670 MILLION TOTAL

LETS COMPLETELY REMOVE THOSE 3 COUNTRIES
AND MOS DID 591 MILLION IN 2013.

591M IN 2025 WITH INFLATION
IS 816 MILLION

CAP MARVEL STILL
DID 900MS WITHOUT
THOSE COUNTRIES....
900MS IN 2025 IS 1.1 BILLION.

THESE MOVIES HAVE NO
EXCUSE NOT TO PUT UP
STUPID NUMBERS

So 'Man of Steel' and 'Superman' are going to end up being close to the same considering 'Superman' has a higher domestic total in which the studio receives a much higher percentage of the gross than they do in overseas territories.

Also, why are we not accounting for a lot of the movies just being ass? 'The Marvels' was never going to come close because the movie was dreadful ....

Let's look at 'Aquaman' if you want to keep it in the DC family. 'Aquaman' made $351M from China/Russia/South Korea. There's no way to make up for that if those people ain't watching

AQUA MAN WITHOUT
THOSE COUNTRIES DID 800MS
800MS IN 2025 IS 1 BILLION

CAP MARVEL
DID 900MS WITHOUT
THOSE COUNTRIES....
900MS IN 2025 IS 1.1 BILLION.

SUPERMAN 2025 WONT EVEN DO 700MS
SO HOW IS THAT CLOSE TO 816MS?

"A studio might make about 60% of a film's ticket sales in the United States, and around 20% to 40% of that on overseas ticket sales."

Likely scenario

Low end est.

~$365M (domestic) = $219M

~$280M (overseas) = $84M

= $303M

$291M (domestic) = $175M

$379M (overseas) = $113M

= $288M

We're in a different era now than the 2010s. The 2010s were the peak of superhero movie popularity (especially 2016-2019). We're unlikely to reach that peak again for a while.

So comparing the box office of superhero movies now to ones before 2020 is pointless. Superman is going to gross over $600 million, and that's solid for the environment we're in now.

NOPE ...
THESE EXCUSES
DONT WORK WITH INFLATION

DEADPOOL JUST DID 1.34 BILLY
WHILE SUPERMAN ISNT
GOING TO DO HALF OF THAT

It's not excuses. It's just reality.

Also, Deadpool & Wolverine is an exception. It was a movie driven by nostalgia with over 25 years of fandom it was pulling from. Of course, nostalgia bait movies like Deadpool & Wolverine are going to make over a billion.

That's not comparable to other superhero movies.

When has a completely new installment of a movie franchise ever done more than a sequel with beloved characters? Jackman has playing Wolverine for decades. 'Deadpool' had two prior movies that were well received. It was a team up film with FOX characters that have been around forever.

'Batman Begins' didn't do a huge number. 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' didn't clear a billion in the peak of superhero and movie theater fandom.
