NO ONE SAID THIS MOVIE
SHOULD HAVE DONE MORE
THAN DP3.
Not sure how much that matters, It's already exceeded $100M in profit minus the production costs while many movies are losing money.

We're in a different era now than the 2010s. The 2010s were the peak of superhero movie popularity (especially 2016-2019). We're unlikely to reach that peak again for a while.
So comparing the box office of superhero movies now to ones before 2020 is pointless. Superman is going to gross over $600 million, and that's solid for the environment we're in now.
This!
Post covid box office sales will never be the same again.

People are going out for big "event" movies they want to see. They want to go out, go to the theater, have the conversation and listen to the pods/YouTube videos about them. This "post covid theater" stuff means nothing for tentpole movies like that list, ageed.

I know you're replying to Chicago but that underscores my point:Almost every single movie on that list is a sequel.
The rest of that list has goodwill Superman lacked prior to release. Superman 2 will probably crush. People like knowing what they're getting into. This movie performed like it did globally because of other countries ' desire (or lack of) to see American films right now, and (much more importantly) a lack of trust of Superman as a character and people not sure of the tonal change.

Deadpool and wolverine was the third movie in a trilogy with each movie doing better.
NOPE ...
THESE EXCUSES
DONT WORK WITH INFLATION
DEADPOOL JUST DID 1.34 BILLY
WHILE SUPERMAN ISNT
GOING TO DO HALF OF THAT

Yeah I agree and I pointed this out because 'Batman Begins' was not a huge hit. 'Spider-Man: Homecoming' was not a huge hit (it did very well but at the time any big movie was doing a billion and it did $800M). Also, 'The Amazing Spider-Man' was not a huge hit, really.
Often times the first movie of a new iteration of the character is going to have to sell people on it.
WHY DO YOU KEEP

Deadpool and wolverine was the third movie in a trilogy with each movie doing better.
Only Aquaman has started off hitting a billion

With VOD coming next week, I dont think it reaches 600M, still good BO run though![]()

Once again, that's a different era. The 2010s were the peak of superhero movie popularity (especially 2016-2019). We're not in that era anymore.

DO A BILLY....
DP1 DID $782,837,347
THATS 1.5 B IN 2025

Also, the first Deadpool movie was NOT expected to gross that much. It was a surprise hit, and Ryan Reynolds pretty much did everything he could to promote the movie and hype it up.
