There was a lot of race-mixing in latin america
European males mixed with native females creating the largest race group which is metizo
European males also mixed with african females creating another race group they call mulattos
Africans and natives also mixed creating a race group called sambos
Add 300 years of whites, blacks, natives, metizos, mulattos, and sambos fukking each other and mixing and you get a majority of latin americans today.
Of course there are still pure cacs and blacks and natives, but for the most part latin americans are a mixed race... They don't identify as black or white in most of their countries unless they're dark pitch black or snow white. They identify as one from a nation; puerto rican, domincan, mexican, colombian, etc...
So of course when they come to the US, they'll identify as from wherever country they are from or their parents are from rather than white or black...

Not at all... a domican may be black in the US, but he never felt part of bein' black back in the dominican republic where most of the population share his complexion... To them bein' black is being a darker skin haitian.... N even tho in the US they are black to the general population, they don't feel like bein' black themselves... Its all about perception...
