Swap Dirk for Garnett and assume everything else stays in place....

It's part of the reason why I get annoyed when folks say Dirk carried his team to the ship with no help. Dude didn't have to do anything different defensively. the rest of his team shouldered that which allowed him to flourish offensively.

He also developed a counter to the defensive techniques that threw him off in 2006 and 2007. He was still one-dimensional, but he was damn good at being one-dimensional.

No one will ever argue what dirk was offensively. KG could never be who Dirk was offensively.

My point is that Dirk's late career bloom correlated with a quick decline with KG, which causes people to assess their careers inaccurately. Dirk was always better offensively, but his 2011 performance is glorified to the point where his early career short comings are glossed over. Part of the reason is because KG was dropping off so quickly. The bigger reason is probably because Dirk beat Lebron and hating Lebron was at its peak in 2011.

Spurs would've been worse with KG.

They'd be different. They'd still win.

Everything in this post is 100% accurate.

Dirk won a title with the Dallas Mavericks. Nuff said.

KG wouldn't have gotten that done. KG wasn't really capable of going off for 40+ on any given night. Dirk was at that time. In this case, Dirks offense was more important than KGs defense

You anchor the defense and stop 10 possessions and you got your 20 points at least, KG could go for 20 at any given night, plus better assist numbers. This logic is flawed.

Now who else wanna fukk with Hollywood Court?
Both had a post game wtf

How about we just use these two playoff numbers, during their playoff careers KG took 29% of his shots from 16 feet out or further, Duncan took 12%. Duncan lived in the paint and didn't let defenders off the hook, he applied more pressure to a defense because, hence taking 7 freethrows a game in the playoffs to KGs 4. That has nothing to do with system, and everything to do with the differences in their games.

Duncan had a post game you could rely on in the playoffs, KG didn't have a back to the basket game even in the same ballpark as Duncan.

Duncan didn't have KG's range and fadeaway game, of course he's going to take it to the paint in most of his post ups, it doesn't mean KG wasn't posting up defenders from 13 feet out or closer. KG was a threat on pick'n'pops too so this stat is kind of obvious. Duncan was only setting up high screens to run plays, he would take like 5 seconds with the ball on his hands before shooting an open mid range, he always looked scared, even though he could bank them in sometimes.

And that's why Duncan's teams were better :yeshrug:

They could rely on his offense being consistent and not dependent on his jumper falling or not, they could throw him the ball and say "Get us two big fella" in pressure situations.

But Jason Kidd and Terry and others were locking down the defense that playoffs.

Dirk was the lead anchor on offense. 10 feet out, in the paint sometimes, midrange, and from 3 pt. KG wasn't an offensive anchor like that...keep it 100
