Sway asks Grand Hustle artists to freestyle, they all clam up

The days of watching a rapper go in the booth to 'freestyle' with Tigger or pop up on Flex's show are so long gone. Yeah, I guess bigger picture wise spitting a freestyle on Sway's show does nothing, but who knows what a few good bars and a punchline will do, could go viral and bring a little buzz the fact that they didn't even prepare for that something like that to come up is what is really wrong with today's artists.

The last time this worked for a rapper.... was back in 2007.

I think it was Doe B that ended up spittin to some old Rick Ross shyt....and couldn't even stay on beat. I think it was nervousness or something.

This is right up there with Jadakiss when he signed with the Roc and Jay brought him out to freestyle at the start of the Roc Boys tour and couldn't even over some of his own beats. "Man, just do Roc Boys, again Hov".

they spit a hot freestyle aint gonna make me go listen to their music. i heard that Grand Hustle mixtape & it wasnt too good to me.
but if they spit a nice freestyle & was able to get some new people to check for them then i could see freestyling being a big thing

Valid point. But who's to say it couldn't work in 2013, just spit something Kendrick Lamar-ish to get the people's attention, nothing Earth shattering. To me it's a better look to spit something even if it is weak than to cop pleas about it, because this thread isn't doing them any favors.

NYC/East Coast rappers are the only ones who are EXPECTED to know how to freestyle....just cause it's such a staple of their rap culture.

I know that cuz, mostly speaking on the other posters who made it seem like it.....

the fact remains, is that only NYC/East Coast rappers are expected to know how to freestyle..... but you know, nikkas can't read and think i said nobody else from any other region knows how to/can freestyle.

Rappers, period, are expected to know how to freestyle fam. I agree with this though
