Nas murdered those verses, someone else commented that thematically it sounds like No Bad Energy, Echo, and Adult Film were all done in the same session, those verses on Runaway sound the same to me. Very well structured, reflective street Nas, razor sharp flow.

I used to defend this dude a lot in the late 90's, when I was a kid. I thought he was getting a lot of hate for no reason. Then time went on, and I realized his success was really just on the back of trends at the time and the artists who gave him looks from '98-'99. After his one-year run and peak, basically everything he did, away from a few tracks, was mad trash.
He became a household name and was down with a crew that was in their prime due to X, but the actual music he was throwing at people after '99, is damn near embarrassing to even listen to today. He makes a lot of friends in the business and he's a good dude, but musically, he's one of the industry's biggest jokes on the beats. And has been for over two decades. Sh*t is crazy.

For some reason those 5-10 beats are enough for some to consider him top level producer, never understood that.
Only actual good song is the joint with Jay Elec. The beat with Durk is ok but the rest is poo poo butter
