But it's still flopping. Tinashe is doing straight top 40 going no where, sevyn, teyana, tiarra thomas, and others did mainstream r&b and it's flopping. None of them are growing their fanbases thru this. SZA came out on some soulful shyt and switched up on the people who were liking her for that, we'll see if it pays off but looking at the lack of sales success of TDE and the other women out here struggling, she'd do better to have the soul lovers hold her down and ride that tour/blog circuit.

You should listen to the album again it really had a blend for both the ratchets and soulful songs.

Like i told you in the album thread i hate the cursing but its whatever.

The writing is on the wall

-Sexy attractive girl
-Average artist
-Popularity pushed hard by their labels, not able to build a fanbase
-Has a majority male fanbase you all wanna fukk her
-Pushes her sexuality even more to get fans but it ends up not working

:snoop:

Still sexy as fukk though :takedat:

She's bout to sell more than Tinashe ever did on any of her previous albums. :mjlol:

I hear you but you got to look at it like this do you want to take a chance and be up there with the Rihanna and Beyoncé to the point where you are writing for them like sza is or be a Ledsi or an Odisee for that matter. It sucks the game is where it is where even Chris Brown ain't selling like he once was and he got the complete package, the brother can sing, he can dance and the women love him but even he not selling like he did at a time just off him being him. So with that said youre right in that many folks are it selling. At the same time if you have a shot I feel some folks are gonna try to make the most out of it then just playing it safe. Sure playing it safe like a Ledesi or Teedra Moses can get you a comfortable living but why not take the shot and be big time?
No offense but sza isn't going to be up there with rih or bey, in this climate she's doing well if she does k Michelle jhene Aiko numbers

I know it did and I personally don't think that's the best way to go about it. The natural hair Shea butter chicks and ratchets are damn near bloods and crips. There is a segment who appreciates both but like guvnor said, the amount of side chick music is offputting for the early fans who listened to her prior to this.

Anyway, this is all pretty frivolous as I simply don't have faith in the ability for any type of black female singers to get on.

True that but it's the chance of them actually being successful though. If one falls through the cracks they can be bigger then type of artist with a solid bit smaller fan base. They can have millions of fans and all it takes is one hit to open the floodgates and then the ability to come with more.

LOL she might not but at the same time what if she proves you wrong. You got to look at it like this, she could play it safe, but why? She wants to be bigger then that. She is signed to TDE with Kendrick Lamar and worst case scenario she doesn't make it big. At least she can write songs for Beyonce and Rihanna that would go and make a living that way. Her writing is very good.

Rihanna is from a different era. She was able to ascend to the top when it was easier for black female singers in mainstream music

How can you blame her for wanting to be a superstar?

Facts. It is hard for black women in music. They're only pushing the Lil Yachtys. Mumble music is fronted by black males and r&b music is fronted by the Kehlanis.

I don't blame her. Kendrick always wanted to be a star. He didn't go licking toilets and alienating his core fan base. She went about it all wrong. Now her only fans are thirsty clowns who just want her cuz she half white

shea butter music is an underrated lane.

white people aint supporting black women pop stars like that unless you're rihanna or beyonce. plus they would rather support white women that do their best impression of r&b.

tinashe really has yet to win over black women or women in general. "2 on" had a little buzz in the club but then she got lost in the sauce after that. the only time she gets mentioned is when thirsty nikkas like dj akademiks bring her up.

sza seems to be getting more love from black women, and she should try to pander to that more.

Let's not put people in a box though. I know plenty of shea butter chicks who have a ratchet side and vice versa. I mean Erykah is seen as the poster child for the incense and "natural" crowd yet she's also hood as fukk lol.

But yeah besides Beyonce and Rihanna it's pretty much Kehlani and Solange lowkey as far as current popular black female singers. I do think the black girl from 5th Harmony has a chance at making some noise if she goes solo though

@dora_da_destroyer @InDePickWest Why do ya'll think black women really don't fukk with Tinashe? I'm not just talking not being into her music, I'm talking about hearing them say that they straight up hate Tinashe's whole personality and aura lol. I have my own theories but I'm interested in hearing from ya'll.

You're probably going to go the jealously route which I don't believe in because tinashe facially ain't seeing chicks who have come before her and were embraced by black women.

My guess is - to the masses, she's the 2 on chick, that's where most of us first heard her - I know i didn't know her before this. That song fit the sound of the moment but did nothing to define here as an artist, nothing about that song was like "oooo I need to check for her", she's a one hit wonder to most. If I didn't post here and keep seeing the thread simping her where people occasionally linked to old music, I would have ignored her after that song as well.

Then it seems her early fans didn't like the turn her music took, add that some of the pop songs she's trying to drop pretty much suck, she's not a great singer, has no industry name backing her (which also creates challenges for her on the business side - albums shelved, songs given to other artists, being deprioritized - whole Zayn thing), and seems utterly desperate for fame (the overly sexed image that doesn't seem to fit with her early days) shyts just not in her favor. I think she's someone who fell victim to the current industry's lack of desire to develop artists. Had she had some development and found her sound and look, and developed alreltionships in the industry to push for dropping the music she wanted to, she might have been able to make a better impression vs. being the 2 on girl.

It's not about putting her in a box but you gotta start somewhere. Erykah evolved, projects sounded different but were coherent. Sza's album felt like trying to be too many things too soon. People need to establish themselves and evolve, not just throw shyt at the wall.

Most SZA fans I know are young black females like myself. I know a few dudes who jam her music tho. Riding in the car with a young nikka driving for Uber a couple years ago is the first time I heard her. He had it on repeat.

Tinashe on the other hand...her fan base is literally 90% corny thirsty dudes who drool over her and talk about eating spicy burritos out from her ass.

don't quit your day job. this is not a hit. the hook isn't catchy and the verses have like 10 different parts. hits are simple

Ain't a pop hit but I can easily picture this on R&B radio. Half the damn comments on the video are people claiming she sounds like Rihanna on it
