Of course artists these days make more money than they were in the 90s... most of those R&B artists were getting screwed out of money something seriously back then. From TLC to over half of the LaFace roster, Toni Braxton, Total, 112... a lot of broke and talented folks from that era.

Doesn't mean that their music wasn't better.



Let's not act like T-Boz didn't carry them on some of those records. "Red Light Special", "Diggin On You," & "Baby, Baby, Baby" were 3 of their biggest hits.

T-Boz wasnt exactly a great vocalist. Her voice had little to no range....BUT it was unique. And that's what her strength was

I understand that and don't disagree....but my point is that she had a gimmick that was considered controversial at the time and for which they caught mad flack because it turned some people off.

I agree to that point. TLC did do a lot of controversial stuff to gain attention among the masses... but they were balanced about it though.

For every Creep hit, there was a What About Your Friends. For every Red Light Special, there was a Waterfalls. For every No Scrubs, there was an Unpretty about women needing to be happy and confident about themselves physically.

TLC put out a lot of hoodrat anthems, but they kept it balanced with some real records. Nicki is doing nothing of that kind. She has no balance. It's all "I'm the main bytch, I'm rich hoe, y'all are just hoodrat haters" and shyt like that. Using her looks but speaking of nothing real. I can't respect it. Nicki needs to look in the mirror.

It's society's fault that Nicki is popular....you can't blame that on Nicki.

I love T-Boz, but she's criticizing someone else for their brand of entertainment, which is a matter of opinion...now where she IS telling the truth is in saying that that shyt is a popularity contest, that's all it is. She definitely has a point about that, about the fact that a rapper shouldn't be judging singers. But she loses ground when she criticizes the way Nicki goes about her brand of entertainment. That's just real spit.

....not to mention, does she NOT remember the controversy TLC caused when they came out and wore condoms all over their clothes?

Yeah I really don't like Nicki either. If I had to choose between TLC and Nicki it is a no brainer. If for nothing else, them making a popular song promoting condom use in their video, was a big deal in my book. I have a lot of respect for them.

But I am also smart enough to realize what I find as entertaining or respect isn't what others are entertained by or respect.

I don't know. You can criticize Nicki for her image or whatever, but a lot of their songs were about promiscuity and they attempted to sell sex as well. Just because they did it a lot better then Nicki will ever hope to do, and she didn't take it to that extent it doesn't mean she should necessarily get a pass. I think in this day and age you have to do MORE outrageous shyt to get attention and it makes doing dumb shyt like rolling around sucking an imaginary dikk seem normal

Besides that being fairly painfully obvious...there's the fact that you don't have to be some world class singer that could hit every note perfectly to judge a singing competition any more than you have to be a statuesque former beauty queen to judge a beauty pageant...the original judging crew of American Idol were two complete non-singers (Randy and Simon) and Paula Abdul, who was indeed technically a pop singer...but was really just an ex dancer pretty face that couldn't actually sing worth a fifth of a shyt
