these black entertainers kill me....they put on glasses and speak intelligently on for white america...but sell poison to their own ppl.....

It's insulting honestly...they act as if we just aren't intelligent enough to understand things beyond "bling" and "turning up" and "lean" and "loud" and other nonsense.

It also shows how they view whites subconsciously as superior...As if they are worthy of respect and intricate dialogue and we arent.

I don't blame them...White America made them rich. We just made them "hot" and "legit".

Several posts in this thread have said, "I haven't seen white people say they are European-American, so why call yourself African-American?" The funny thing is many white people never called themselves "white" or even just "American" in certain parts of the country until recently. My brother had a professor who was of European descent say, "I grew up in New York. I never met a white person until I moved to the South. Everybody was a Russia-American, Italian, Italian-American, Jewish, or Portuguese." In communities like that, not all of them were accepted under the general, generic "white banner" and held onto their identity and heritage. Since that time many who were not considered white in the past such as Eastern Europeans, Jewish, Irish, Italians and so forth are playing ball under the "white" and "American banner."

Moving forward we will see divides in many communities of people of Asian, African, European descent. Some people are all in the now, in the moment. Other people will be a combination of the past and the present. For me, the ties to Africa are not just the past - it is the present and future as well.

Its crazy because all my favorite rappers are starting to get as far as their music goes. At the end of the day I can understand where he is coming from though. He is like thirty has numerous children, a wife and even more people depending on him to make a living. His image makes alot of people money to survive so he tries to keep himself marketable.

I always laugh at his "i'm safe" glasses when he does interviews and appearances. Desean Jackson did the same thing awhile back.

The issue a lot of people take with Raven Simone's comments is that she doesn't seem to acknowledge or embrace her heritage or her people's struggle.

It's true that white Americans don't have to identify the way black Americans do. We typically don't say "Irish American" or "Italian American" these days.
But they don't have the same stigma nor continue to face the same challenges that African Americans still face.

In the north east you just ask people their name and they will make a point of telling you they are Irish Catholic...
