it's a problem that rappers feel the need to be around and associate with this element in our community. add to it listeners expect rappers to be gangsta, hood, confrontational, etc, makes everything worse. yes, realistically it's a black community problem, no rap, but the fact rappers like being around this element is mind boggling.

i'm sure some of these rock and country singers came from white trash ass hickville, but how often do they go hang out at the local dive bar where meth heads and hells angels are beating each other down? how often do their stars who were from impoverished backgrounds end up dying or being shot as a result of trying to go back to their shytty environments and being around unsavory characters?

rappers need to feel more comfortable breaking off a check to help out the hometown and not trying to show face and stay hanging out with nikkas from the hometown who are full of bad intentions. nikkas need to be more exclusive with their circles, where they hang and who they interact with, drake told us - no new friends
Lotta rock stars especially in the old days associated with Hell's Angels and Mobsters. Places like Studio 54, some of the most ruthless criminals were in the mix.

shyt Michael Jordan was the biggest celebrity in the world in 1993 and gambling with coke dealers.

We don't hear about this happening in Country music because that's a whole different animal. It's a tight knit community and more often than not, the drug usage and what not isn't front and center even if it's something the artist is struggling with.

Rock stars definitely hang around that element, but there's a bunch of factors to consider:

1) Anybody can be a rapper

2) More so now than ever, people that are actually gang members and are real criminals are making music. They aren't weed carriers or bodyguards any more. They are the front and center.

But I wasn't asked to write a paper comparing and contrasting rappers dying due to street violence. And even if I were, what am I comparing and contrasting it against.

You came up with criteria based on what you want me to write about. Very myopic view considering homicide has affected nearly every genre of music.
We talking about the state of rap musics effect on black culture,.. What would Lennon and Sam Cooke who both technically died before rap music have to do with this??

Because it has nothing to do with Hip Hop or the kind of music created. Look at that list, those people were still murdered and they didn't make violent music.

Marvin Gaye made one of the greatest albums of all time in What's Going On. Powerful music that forced us to think about and analyze the world around us. He got murdered, but he sang about love. Sam Cooke? Murdered. John Lennon authored "Imagine". He was murdered. Peter Tosh. Murdered.
4 examples between the years of 1960 - 1990....
and 1 was domestic violence and another was a stalking, so while murders, not exactly the same thing as what happened today or weeks ago with PnB, etc. etc.

I'm the farthest thing in the world from anti-rap or pro-censorship but I feel like i'm burying my head in the sand if i were to say there isn't something short of an epidemic of violent deaths among hip-hop artists. if you don't see the correlation it's only because you don't want to and that's totally understandable, i get that impulse, honestly i do. but it's just too hard for me to ignore.

let's take the 90's - today because that's most of our frame of reference - how many of them are dying due to hanging out in their shytty neighborhoods with with the shytty elements of their community? i'm happy to be proven wrong with articles showing 5/6/7/8 of their popular artists dying per year because of this....i don't keep up with country and rock singers or the equivalent of the white hood (no KKK), so maybe they die at the same clip :hubie:

If Rumors are true and this whole thing popped off because Quavo punched someone… if I was him I would take a few years off and get right with God… Feeling like I’m responsible for my own nephew death would destroy inside.

Shyyt, my cousin and best friend just died from a heart attack, but his heart problems were caused by a Crystal Meth Addiction, and a part of me still feels some blame for his death because I couldn’t convince him to get help for his addiction. I was the only one around him the last two years of his life and I could never get through to him even after I told him his addiction was killing him and that he would probably die soon. And even though I knew he was probably going to die soon, his death still crushed me. I’m still struggling with depression and crying everyday and it’s been over 1 month since it happened. Death is the absolute worse and can crush the soul if not dealt with properly.

My Faith in Jesus is the only reason why I have hope.
