We actually liked and respected the rappers in our generation. We looked up to them the same way people look up to athletes.
Now that dynamic has been upset because rappers wanna be street for real and street nikkas want to compete with rappers for clout. Both groups knew their lane in the past.
Will Smith has a funny story in his memoir. He was good friends with a notorious gangster in Philly. The Gangster was like 5'6 150 pounds. One day they were gambling heavy and Will was winning. I never listened to their music, but I just hate seeing young dudes taken out so young. They were stars too. I read someone in here say they weren’t even from the streets and given their stature, they never even should’ve been in that element.
Rap music isn’t the cause of the violence, but when you’re a rapper and you rap about certain shyt, some people who ain’t got nothing to lose wanna see how “real“ you are. There’s a lot of crabs in the barrel and when you’re flashy around them, nikkas don’t think anything about taking you out because they don’t have shyt to live for themselves. Also, black folks collectively are just way too emotional. It’s a gift and a curse, so I’m only speaking on the curse part because it’s why we react so quickly to everything, and in this case, someone resorted to murder. I bet 95 percent of the killings within our community are over petty BS that could’ve easily been prevented.
