Meek's first response to Back to Back gotta be the weakest diss song ever if were talking popular rappers :pachaha:

What's crazy is I read that Nas wasn't even gonna respond to Takeover and Jungle had to convince him to respond.

To me, takeover still holds up as a Nas diss, Ether is much better though.

Above the fray.
You're spinning what I said. It's always been they were hunting for pics because they schemed to get Ashanti to GET the pic. You tellin me with a straight face Jay and Irv didn't scheme to get an up and coming R&B singer who had nothing to do with the shyt besides she used to go P's grandma's school to get the pics? Matter fact this is right around the time Ashanti's career was taking off so Irv prolly dangled that shyt over her head, like "Do Jay this favor or we ain't puttin your shyt out". That's HUNTING my guy.

And "you're a ballerina" isn't a funny line. That shyt is light work.
just hold the L and give up the "hunting for pictures" angle

If it was as weak as you’re trying to claim, cats wouldn’t have written Nas off like they did. A big part of the reason Ether was so effective is because the perception was that there was no way he could come back from Takeover.

nikkas wrote him off because nastradamus was considered a massive flop & many felt he fell off hard & turned pretty boy soft but that narrative started from IWW so he was basically falling off before that & lets not leave out that he was considered a terrible businessman that couldn't run a label

At that time Jay & rocafella was at the apex of the game & jay was considered the clear so called king of NY so the NY radio stations & the NY streets was on his dikk heavy

That diss did nothing but enhance a narrative & a bunch of talking points that made it easy for jay to seem as tho he killed him

No L's involved man. Ashanti told them about the pics but they still MADE her get the pics for them. They literally made that woman do "Mission: Get P's Dance Troupe Pic At All Costs" reconnaissance work for them. If that's not hunting for his kid pics then I don't know what is.

Nah he got at Nas on some more fact based shyt....i used your own words and you didn't even get paid off it. you weren't really about that street life, you just watched other ppl actually do it and tried to pass it off as your own experiences....you got outrapped on a song by your bodyguard and your weed carriers.

The problem is Jay just spit it too laidback and chill so ppl didn't really FEEL it like you want ppl to on a diss

I know Ether is classic but Nas's shyt is mostly sandbox elementary school insults....you ugly, whiskers like a rat, taebo hoe....the only real shyt he got Jay on is the fact Jigga has used too many of Biggie's rhymes and the fact that Beans at times outshined Jay on songs.

Nas just went at the diss with more fire and oomph which is why more ppl fukk with it even tho lyrically it's super light.

It was also true that Jay was fukking Foxy and Foxy admitted it

It was also true Jay kept Nas name in his music and was a big fan

the “you ugly” diss is, if we go by Jigga himself, also true.

“Used to tell they friends I was ugly and wouldn't touch me
Then I showed up in that dubbed out buggy
And then they got fuzzy”

not even Jay thought he was gettin girls cause of his looks:huhldup:

You been in it ten
I been in it 5

:duck:

Jay handed himself an L right there.

He starts Nas' career in 91. Illmatic came out in 94. What happened in 91 was Live at the BBQ which was Nas' debut on a song.

Jay starts his own career in 96 with the release of Reasonable Doubt.

So Nas starts with a feature verse while Jay starts with a debut album. Why would he do that?:jbhmm:

Jay revealed his insecurities.

Nas was a legend off one verse. He bodied Back to the Grill and then Halftime. Three appearances in 3 years and people were fiending for a Nasty Nas album because he made a mark every time.

Jay did Hawaiian Sophie in 89 and no one cared about him. Jaz O featured him again on The Originators in 90, no one cared. Original Flavor got him a feature on Can I Get Open in 94, no one cared.

The man tried to bury his rap career pre RD because he was embarrassed that it took him so long to get on. He dropped Ether before Nas did:mjlol:

What's weak about it? He only talked facts

Nas did fall off- before Stillmatic everyone saw him as a guy who started strong with the first 2 albums then was on a steady decline after

His Oochie Wally verse was trash

Nas was a fantasy thug rapper

MC Serch was up in Nas publishing

"keep talking and I'll tell everyone how I had sex with your bm while you were still with her"

All Nas could say was Jay Z has big lips (what's wrong with that Nas:mjpls:) and Jay wanted Nas on some songs

1). According to Serch, Nas did INDEED get paid off of Jay-Z sampling his voice. There was no Serchlite Publishing at the time that Jay—Z sampled Dead Presidents

2). How could Nas fall off before Stillmatic when he put out TWO platinum albums within the same year? One of those albums was acclaimed critically (I am) and One was not (Nastradamus) but two platinum albums in ONE year (something only DMX har achieved at the time) isn’t indicative of flopping

I am comfortable and I love you
Takeover was full of typical weirdo Jay behavior. He got defensive and mad cause Nas didn't care enough to do songs with him, and made a bunch of specious claims about Nas being wack, and not having a good album since Illmatic, etc.

Ether was petty, but factual.
"Callin my crib, and I ain't even give you my numbers" :mjtf:

Plus it pointed out how Jay just rode from wave to wave his whole career "from Jaz, to Kane, to Irv, to Big".

I wish he would've called him out for rapping like Das Efx 'til 95 :martin:

I'm tired of Nas/Hov debates here man. You got people claiming Nastradamus was solid, or that the idea that Nas "fell off" was a media creation of Jay with no bearing in reality.

The facts are that Takeover was dope and a lot of people thought Nas couldn't possibly come back. The fact that he not only came back hard, but straight up slapped the shyt out of Jay, is a testament to him as a rapper AND builds his legacy even further. If Takeover was just some wack shyt nobody cared about, maybe we don't get Ether or Stillmatic. Brehs be acting like they gotta shyt on Jay to praise Nas. Dead that shyt and enjoy the fact that he came back hard. Yes I say "came back" because Nastradamus was weak as fukk. I don't want to hear any revisionist history about it.

I see it more the other way around these days. People act like they gotta shyt on Nas to Praise Jay. And narratives are pushed way more against Nas these days. It's well documented that the I am/nastradamus era was thrown off by being leaked. Although I am is still dope too me. And ok he took a hiatus from 1999 to 2001 to deal with his mom being sick from cancer. So what. If we want call that a fall off then so be it. Nas came back after his mom passed and smacked jay around with the rest of those QB dudes.:yeshrug:
