Its like Graces if there was a massive handicap and characters were forced into roles more than usual.

To clarify, you didn't HAVE to stop combos in Graces. If you linked abilities and combos together correctly, you could get some crazy loops going. Skills and equipment really made it simple too.

In Z, you have to be a fukking magician to make that sort of shyt happen. Its still decent combat, when the camera isn't dikking you, but its definitely actively holding the player back from being as creative as they want.

If you're a button masher, it won't bother you at all though.

@winb83 @42 Monks can you gives me your opinion of the battle system for this? I feel Xillias was a massive step back from Graces. Graces to me took the Symphonia/Abyss/Vesperia formula, remixed it, simplified it, yet gave it depth at the same time. It was perfect to me a needed very little adjustment other than some freshness worthy of a new title. Xillia ruined it in many ways IMO. The link system was ass, the combo system was ass, and the multiplayer came down to you and your homies linking with the two other characters. I'm REALLY hoping Zestiria takes more from Graces than it does from Xillia.

I'm hoping Breseria and future tales games go back to the Symphonia/Abyss/Vesperia vibe in term of party construction, story, and overall feel.
I wasn't a fan of the battle system. In fact I beat the game and I still don't fully understand it. How you equip items with certain elements for bonuses. Most of the game I just button mashed and when I reached a boss that out classed me I upgraded my equipment.

I do like the character fusions and elemental weakness part of the battle system though. If your human dies you can trigger the fusion with the seraphs and revive them instantly as long as you have at least 1 blast gauge point..

That was another one of my complaints, just a smaller one.

The AI is dumb as fukk and cannot defend themselves normally for whatever reason - and because of that, you have to gear them for defense HEAVILY for the first 3/4 of the game. Their only real strength is hitting weaknesses and boosting your combo numbers.

im hearing the fire fusion is particularly powerful with water guy behind her
I used mostly Fire and Earth and if I was underleveled I used water because of the ranged attacks. Earth has an attack string that can interrupt bosses from spell casting I forgot the move but the characters actually say "That won't work" as you're doing it.

The earth and water seraphs have the best healing spells too. For the final boss I used those two and set them to only heal.

Sounding like the wind one is whack then? Funny because before the game came out I liked his design the most with the green hair and the top hat lol looks swaggy

I only used the wind one when it was a weakness to exploit. It just was my least favorite. The fusions do kinda break the game though. They make it way easier.

None of them are wack really, its just that fire and earth WRECK shyt compared to the other two. Wind can kick out crazy damage and run the combo #s up, the problem with it is that its a incredibly hard to keep steady on whatever you're hitting and you need a bit of windup. Water is good too, its just really stationary - you can setup combos really easy with it though.
