I didn't play the Alisha DLC yet. I hear it's a epilogue. Still games like Lunar and Lunar 2 complete showed JRPGs how you handle an ending. It's a travesty we're still getting these final boss defeated murky at best closure style endings.I thought this was the best overall Tales product since Vesperia. The leveling is a mess, true (mainly the title system) but people don't really track that progression is almost entirely equipment based and ....well, its fukking people up - but that's on the devs for not really centering the game around that like they should've.
The cast is probably the best group I've seen in a LONG time. There isn't any just blatantly annoying character in the group and everyone kinda has a unique dynamic with everyone else.
Story.... its a tales game. They'll never be great. It'll just be a reason to dungeon crawl and fukk up a douche. I'm kinda cool with how it ended. The game is far more deserving of a sequel than Xillia - so if they want to revisit this world, I'd be open to it. RPG sequels are becoming more common anyways.
Combat wasn't bad actually. Its... more limiting than Graces F, obviously, but its WAY better than Xillia. A lot of characters seem to be really locked into a certain playstyle and though that's always the case in Tales games they make it more restricted than ever.
It was a good game to me. My biggest gripe was the camera and anti-grinding mechanisms.
But its really easy to see why this game in particular was so divisive when it comes to opinions. It'll be worth it on any sale.
I haven't touched the Alisha stuff yet... I hated her character more than everyone else in ToZ (loved the spear but whatever)I didn't play the Alisha DLC yet. I hear it's a epilogue. I guess I should have known better especially after having beat Tales of the Abyss and still to this day not knowing who it was at the end.I haven't touched the Alisha stuff yet... I hated her character more than everyone else in ToZ (loved the spear but whatever)
but RPGs are all kinda getting into the new age where they're looking to ways to leave things open to a revisit through sequel or DLC these days. Tales was known for its new game+ stuff that was ahead of the game tbh. Now they're looking to keep that as well as get in on the free money market that the West has been eating off of for a whole gen now.
I do think there could've been more closure but honestly it feels like it was left open on purpose. Even Xillia was *done* at the end. It didn't need a sequel at all. Zestiria... well, shyt - going by the trailers there's some missing dragons in this game lol

The ending has zero closure. It's unforgivably bad. For once I wanna have it where when you go on a 40ish hour journey with a group of characters you get some type of insight as to what happened to them when the journey ends.

Its not a bad game at all. Its just mediocre, and if it hits certain spots for the individual then it can actually be really good. If not.... its meh as fukk. I liked it, but I can understand people that even hate it. Its hard to recommend in that regard. As a huge Tales fan, it's disappointing to hear this game didn't deliver like it should have from all the hypes. With that said, Vesperia is in my top 3 Tales games (Vesperia/Symphonia/Abyss with Graces just missing the cut even though it had the GOAT battle system) so hearing you say it's the best game since then is nice. Xillia 1 was just decent to me, and Xillia 2 I thought was very weak, so as long as this game is above those, I'll be satisfied. I hate hearing that the story is weak though. Yes, Tales never had a Final Fantasy 7 level of plot, but it always decent enough to make you invest in when combined with the charming characters. I didn't play a tales game with a story I flat out thought sucked until Graces and the Xillias. Symphonia IMO had a good story, Abyss did too, and while Vesperia was too scattered and inconsistent, the party was charming.
Another concern is I hear the camera is GARBAGE. The last three games I played through with my homie, but I'm hearing this camera is so bad that it makes multiplayer a chore.
What are the anti-grind mechanisms?
This is the last game i need to pick up for my PS4 that I'm getting for Christmas. Just waiting for the price to go down a bit as there's no reason to drop 60 right now on a game I won't be playing for another 3 weeks.

The camera is legit trash though. Its inexcusable. You pretty much have to learn to accept that you'll be using points toward the free run ability because its the only way to unfukk the camera if you get into a corner or tight hallway.
The anti-grind stuff is... lets say you're just banging out battles because the combat is fun and the enemies are helping you get certain unlocks or whatever. After a while, characters will start saying shyt like "I could sure use a break" and you'll notice that your EXP gains are falling the fukk off hard. Very hard. You'll have to hit an inn to get back on track.
I couldn't finish Xillia 2. I didn't like the cast or combat that much and that's basically what makes or breaks a tales game for me.
Its too easy to get around it because the fast travel is on point in Zestiria. If anything its too good. That anti-grind mechanism seems awful, but you can just warp to an inn will quick and get back to it right? Dumb mechanic though.
Yeah Xillia 2 was awful but the last 2 hours or so actually had a pretty powerful story. I'd youtube it or something.
There's no definitive answer the creators basically said it's whoever you believe it to be.It was Asch and Luke fused together to form one person
The problem is most stat gains are done through equipment and skills so you can't really grind for levels in this game. Also you need to beat the optional bosses in the game to get the orbs that raise the party's HP. Level grinding is meaningless in this game. The stat gains from leveling up are minimal. The anti-grind stuff is... lets say you're just banging out battles because the combat is fun and the enemies are helping you get certain unlocks or whatever. Xillia 2 has one of the most heavy hitting emotional plots in the series. It sets up a downer ending and doesn't back out on it with any deus ex machina bs.I couldn't finish Xillia 2. I didn't like the cast or combat that much and that's basically what makes or breaks a tales game for me.

As an overall game it was kinda lacking but it didn't disappoint when it came to plot. It's basically the opposite of most games in the series.
