Dar is a fun city to visit, I recommend it. You can incorporate a trip to Zanzibar at the same time, which is only an hour away by ferry.

Most tourist books which cater to white people will tell you to spend as little time as possible in Dar, but ignore them The people are friendly, they have a good party scene- they have a very distinct coastal culture and history, and if youre a tourist from the West youll be able to find good places to stay.

Not to say the country/city doesnt have huge challenges, but its still nice to visit.
