Artists are doing that so they (or the label) can save or the manufacturing costs, but just as books, newspapers, and magazines may be struggling, physical copies won't see their death, at least not until my generation (the last raised on physical goods) dies.
They're afraid of the changing market. If too many artists start to do this Target and other retailers like it are going to be missing out on a huge chunk of CD revenue.

Itunes is pretty much going to have the monopoly on first week releases. This is Target's way of protesting that.
Itunes has been the largest retailer for music for a couple of years.

Lol, ok, that's $15.99 less + lost additional revenue for target. The people who will pick this up as a gift, especially in stores like target and walmrt, are likely to make additional or impulse purchases, while one CD title isn't the end of the world, it definitely comes across as sour grapes.
lets be honest. Target sells lets say another 50-200K Beyonce albums for 15 bucks each for a maximum of $3 Million in revenue and profit of who knows....$2M?

I think Target will be ok....

http://www.forbes.com/companies/target/ profits: 3 billion :jawalrus:

http://www.forbes.com/companies/best-buy/ profits -0.2b

But you are right, I can see how best buy will leap over 800 global companies and catch target as a global leader in retail with the sales from this beyonce album :beli:
