The Tim Duncan of guards.
He plays the 3/4 thoughThe Tim Duncan of guards.
^This is the actual issue. Few people (outside of maybe Massachusetts) had him "better" than Jokic, Giannis, Luka. You can now add SGA to that list. Hell, two years ago it was still a "debate" if he was better than a 38 year-old Bron or often-injured Kawhi, Embiid, AD. Some even argued (or trolled) that Tatum wasn't the "Batman" on his own team.
Compound this discourse with BOS's choke jobs vs Miami and GSW, then finally getting over the hump with JB as Finals MVP, and public perception is likely that Boston is simply a great all-around team and Tatum is their best player, full stop.
That should be enough for him tbh but if he wants greater public validation than "just" being a champion, star, and overall good guy, then idk.
WhateverHe plays the 3/4 though![]()
Because the real truth of the matter is NBA fans like crashouts and knuckleheads more. Sports is basically reality television for men combined with a bookie.
People have to make it about Jason Tatum's personality because he is probably the best all around player in the game right now.
Everything you said is true but the issue, or at least "issue" in terms of him not being at a level of notoriety and glory that he feels he should be, is still also that he's boring personality and on-court aesthetics wise.
Yeah those dudes are better than him, but there are also people Tatum is better than that folks still "fukk with" more. Anthony Edwards comes to mind immediately. He might be better than Tatum one day, but even though he's not right now, folks show up to see him on and off the court more than they do JT.
He's simply a more interesting and charismatic human being.
Kyrie and Zion went to Duke though.Sent kd to the glue factory. Like tony Parker did gary Payton.
Ever since then. They try to act like Tatum does not exist.
Couple that with the Duke thing too.
that tatum was made a hard sell.
Tatum = Celtics + Duke ÷ kobe stan
I mean it is to many weird double negatives to get past. If you think about grassroots hoops. Plus how people are perceived.
Like kobe fan and kobe was a jordan fan. Then the kid goes to Duke. No love there. Then after that goes to the Celtics. Then puts kd out to pasture. Then wins a title as a Celtic. Where the roster is red auerbach dominant.
It is not much wiggle room.
for tatum to be liked. In most nba circles. Plus Tatum is a kobe guy in a Celtics town.
Tatum kinda has no way to ever be generally liked.
Plus he is a young father. Where just this all star game. Tatum had to kinda discipline his kid during the Allstars ceremony. So Tatum has to be a neutered acertain way. Not to damage his parental sway. Sohh there is not much wiggle room at all to make a superstar draw for Tatum. As Tatum is a father. Where his kid is super cognitive and growing. That it just sanitized Tatum.
as a drawing public figure.

Having a personality and being original would also help, when Boston media got on Toine's ass and asked him why did he take so many 3's , he said "because there are no 4s" .So you think him dancing will make people like him more?

Duncan was also better than Jayson TatumStop comparing him to Duncan. Tim Duncan didn't give a fukk about his public perception, or basketball. Tatum wants the spotlight, he wants to be Kobe, he's resorted to begging tor it now.
The modern day Duncan is obviously Jokic.
Having a personality and being original would also help, when Boston media got on Toine's ass and asked him why did he take so many 3's , he said "because there are no 4s" .
And its not just dancing show some emotion/showmanship a having a Signature move, and or celebration.
Curry has several the sleep celebration, turning around after taking and making a long distance shot. I made an example of Toine because he was less successful than him less accolades on the same market, but was more beloved by the fans because he showed emotion and Joy had his own style.
breh I lived in Boston in the hood in 03 when Ainge traded him to the MAVS, they loved Toine and Piru P they called them the Baby Celtics the fans got on Ainge's ass about that trade they was big mad cause they made it to the ECF in 02, I used to listen to the Boston sports radio to listen to them tearsI can’t speak on how Magic or Knicks fans felt about him, but I can confidently say that Antoine Walker was never more beloved by Celtic fans than Tatum is, even before the title
He’ll probably never the best player or most popular player in the league like he wants and that’s cool, but y’all are swinging too far to the other end of the spectrum. He’s not at the level he wants to be seen at, but he’s at a higher level than y’all are giving him credit for
