^This is the actual issue. Few people (outside of maybe Massachusetts) had him "better" than Jokic, Giannis, Luka. You can now add SGA to that list. Hell, two years ago it was still a "debate" if he was better than a 38 year-old Bron or often-injured Kawhi, Embiid, AD. Some even argued (or trolled) that Tatum wasn't the "Batman" on his own team.

Compound this discourse with BOS's choke jobs vs Miami and GSW, then finally getting over the hump with JB as Finals MVP, and public perception is likely that Boston is simply a great all-around team and Tatum is their best player, full stop.

That should be enough for him tbh but if he wants greater public validation than "just" being a champion, star, and overall good guy, then idk.

Because the real truth of the matter is NBA fans like crashouts and knuckleheads more. Sports is basically reality television for men combined with a bookie.

Funny enough, i just got done listening to the Jeff Teague podcast and they were talkin about the bolded. They made the point that personality wise Tatum actually isn't too different from Steph Curry but Curry's on the court demeanor is loud, boisterous, and demonstrative with the dancing, night night gestures, and general showboating. Makes people forget he has this soft spoken church boy demanor off the court.

So yea, JT doesn't have the play style that a Curry or Edwards has, and i think that's part of it, but even boring ass Tim Duncan was recognized as an accomplished top 2 player.. even if ppl fukked with KG, TMac, and Iverson more. I think that's more of what JT was talking about, bc popularity-wise JT does sell more jerseys than Ant and gets more all star votes.

I agree with Teague that JT's probably popular the way Grant HIll was... which at times was weaponized against Hill by the urban community in order to defend, say, Allen Iverson.

breh I lived in Boston in the hood in 03 when Ainge traded him to the MAVS, they loved Toine and Piru P they called them the Baby Celtics the fans got on Ainge's ass about that trade they was big mad cause they made it to the ECF in 02, I used to listen to the Boston sports radio to listen to them tears , Ainge actually Brought him back 2 seasons later due to the backlash. Calling Lafrentz a "stiff"
The fans really didn't fukk with Ainge specially after Toine won a chip with the Heat after trading him again, they didn't get off him until the Garnett trade, Allen signing. Boston Fans love they drafted players , I remember when they was cutting salary cap them callling in making threats that they would Riot if they traded Pierce.
