Michael Jackson, Kanye and Beyonce have numerous grammys :yeshrug:

My bad...this is a one sided thread about the whitemans acceptance...continue on.:ehh:
let's be reality, they got (many of) them on GP of being at the top of the industry. even within the "black" categories it's a popularity contest over art.

Yeah, use internationally famous Pop stars as an example :laff::laff::laff:

Op used Marvin Gaye as an example. U trying to say Marvin Gaye wasn't on that level??

It's no idea to compare an award show, which was in a completely different format back then, people say Pac and Big have zero.
They only had like 2 chances to win and that was for singles. I don't know if they could defeat Mary and Meth or Coolio, it isn't like those were weak records.

And also competition is different.

Marvin was going against Stevie, Aretha, Temptations, Earth win and fire, Ray Charles and them, it's not like he lost to some off brand weak artist. And it was for best song, not even song but "Vocal performance" not album in the beginning.

Like always with these things people talk but can't specify exactly what they mean.

Yes he should've won 1973 for What's going on though, "Concert for Bangladesh" :smh:

But going of "classic albums", other albums that weren't even nominated were Stones Exile To Main Street, Bowies Ziggystar dust and Led Zeppelin 4 which are frequently mentioned among top 10 albums of all times.

Most album of the year nominees and winners didn’t sell as much as the other albums. Beck, Herbie Hancock, Daft Punk, Ray Charles, Mumford and Sons and other recent winners all won that category over albums that sold many more copies.

Kanye has never won 1 of the big 3 awards. There isn't a white artist of Kanye's popularity and critical acclaim that hasn't won one of those awards. Beyoncé has been at the top of the game for almost 20 years - she has won 1 major award. Sam Smith and Bruno Mars both have 1. Actuallly Smith has 2 with his 1 album.

If Kanye and Beyoncé were white they would have multiple top gongs. Kanye has 20 something Grammys - never won one in a white dominated field. Not ever.

Katy Perry is Britney status.

As dude pointed out. When other artists do bigger numbers than black ones - white artists win it. When black people sell more - let's give it to Beck or Arcade Fire (fuego album btw) because of critical acclaim.

Any white artist drops with critical acclaim and sales in recent years of Beyoncé, Kanye and Kendrick they would sweep the whole thing. If Drake were white - making white music he would sweep it based on popularity too. It's different rules to make them always win.

Since this is a rap board I'm gonna focus on rap specifically.

The Grammys ignored rap music for literally a decade....then in 1989 gave the first Rap Performance Grammy to DJ Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince....which was cool but the shyt that rap fans were really listening to ("Straight Outta Compton", "It Takes A Nation Of Millions", "Follow The Leader", "Making Trouble")....actually fukk it, here's a list of the rap albums that came out in '88:

1988 in hip hop music - Wikipedia

Anyway, they ignored what was actually going on in hip-hop. This should be a big ass clue how the Grammys operate, across the board. So to see rap fans actively participate in Grammy discussion is :snoop: as hell....they don't give a fukk about you, or the genre. Then again the vast majority of this board is just pop fans infatuated with a couple rappers they'll eventually outgrow, so it is what it is.

Fred.
