Ironically enough, I know teachers that used to do both and more than likely still do till this day. We’d see at school during the day and at their job at Walmart during the night.
This is absolutely disgusting and sad as fukk. This country is so god damn backwards.

Teachers have been punching bags. They are expected to be baby sitters and educators and entitled ass parents followed up by bullshyt ass administrations make it hard on them. This country deserves to fail for undervaluing them.
it takes years of working tho to get that good pay…the starting pay is low even in NYC and chicago which have a higher salary schedule than a lot of cities
I don’t blame dude for quitting…in a lot of districts the yearly increment is about $1000…it would probably take him approximately 12 more years as a teacher to earn what he’s now earning at walmart smh

Districts wanna pay teachers 35 to 40k to teach 30 of these bad ass kids at the same time, might as well go become a security guard or something.
You can start off making 59 in Chicago at most charter schools. Houston is around 57. I know teachers in NY making 69 after 3 years of teaching. Most brehs on this board aren't seeing that money. And again, benefits and job security needs to be considered as well.
I definitely stand corrected on NYC…when I started teaching the starting salary was less than $40k but I see that’s been raised substantially even with minimal requirements…it’s now been raised to $56k
In the myriad of problems with education, this is a big one. Charter schools should not be an acceptable answer to well-funded and staffed public schools. This world ain't right.

That's similar starting salary in my area. My mom has been teaching in public schools inMontgomery county, MD for 20 years and she makes over 100k.
Lowkey one of the most important jobs there is. These men and women are 50+% responsible for raising our children for 12+ of their most impressionable years.
We let these institutes pay them less than a Walmart employee and yet we wonder why society is taking a nose dive into a septic tank
Prison wardens are important too. Should they recieve our praise? Depends on how you look at it I guess.

In high school I remember my 12th grade government teacher telling the class he made 27k a year...a kid in the class was working at grocery store making more than him

Everytime I think of how little teachers are paid, I think of my two exes who were teachers and hope they are getting fukked over in their salary too.
