Real talk if you are young and have a degree between the ages of 20s to early 40s and haven't gotten anywhere with your career and aren't making any decent money. But live in a major city I would encourage some folks to look into the teacher cert program.

These big cities have a teacher shortage cause all the old timers are retiring due to covid and due to them not being able to understand the technology to do distant learning.

You would be surprised how many older teachers know absolutely nothing about computers. You got 60 and 70 year old teachers who can teach the shyt out of calculus and physics. But couldn't work zoom or a smart phone if you gave them a manual.

Out here in DFW teachers starting off make 53 to 57k working 189 days a year. It ain't engineering money. But it's more than most jokers would make with a English degree, biology degree, art degree, general studies degree and many of the other degrees folks get in college that they can't do anything else with (with out a secondary degree) yet got tons of debt.

I know a brotha right freaking now with one of them degrees above. Dude is 28 working at freaking Hertz. Making 18 an hour. Dude be hitting me up for jobs at my company taking about he need a higher paying gig. Told him all we hire are engineers and all the kats in my circle engineers too. So I really don't have contacts that can help him

Brought up the teacher program and dude looked at me like I was crazy. I was like dude you do the program for 1 year and you making 55k. I was like plus you a black male the schools will roll out the welcome mat because they need black teachers. Dude threw his hands up and was like naw I am gonna try to get some high paying job.

That was 2 years ago and he still at Hertz making chump change with around 50k instudent loans.

Jokers be hustling backwards with some of these job opportunities.

If brothers want jobs go into education! Go where they are hiring! I do this shyt everyday. They got districts that desperately need brothers that the city pays you a living allowance. You live rent free and have full benefits and depending on the city can start out making 50.

Is teaching challenging? Yes. But our students need black men and black men need economic stability. Stop shytting on stability when you really could be eating.

One more thing folks forget how powerful these teacher unions are in these big cities up north and out west.

Many times the mayor of Chicago has tried to go back on a raise they promised the teachers union. The teacher union then threatens to strike. The mayor then says ok we will give you 2% raise (for example). The teachers union says no you said in the contract we would get a 3% raise. Then teachers go on strike.

After 2 to 5 days the mayor has a press conference saying the teachers will get their agreed upon 3% raise. The teachers end their strike.

Rinse and repeat. That's the power of having one of the most powerful unions on your side as an employee.

Truth. Out here in DFW my wife nephew in the teacher cert program. He should be done in the spring.

He is at the point where he does his intern for the cert program. So thinking he can get some inside info on the program he goes and speaks to the black head principal at his little sisters elementary school.

The principle hires him on the spot for the intern gig and wants to bring him on board as soon as he finishes the intern with them. Then she says if he has trouble passing the teacher test she got 4 teachers that she will assign to work with him every day to pass the teacher test...:mjlol:

This how bad they need teachers especially black ones and especially males and black males.

We can't make it anymore plan. Any brother with a clean record who has not established a career could consider this as a career. Man, they got all kinda discounts on homes for teachers.

Too many of my brothers are missing this ship and it's frustrating because we can all be eating! We bring the culture to the building. The kids recognize real.

I'm done explaining. Let brehs continue to toil and get shafted with low paying jobs.

Many are forgetting that there's more to walking in the door with a degree to get into, or at least, continue teaching. There's more school involved and prepping for certifications. You have to figure out if you have the stamina to go to class after working with kids all day. You really have to be dedicated.

The entire concept of school, curriculum and how teaching is viewed, has to be re-engineered. I think there should be a more collaborative effort between all type of schools and grouping children based on socio-economic conditions and/or overall learning style. Baltimore City school system for example, once reported they spent $15k per pupil, per school year.

A moderate private school can run about $6500 per school year, but probably facing student shortages. If the public school system could work with them to supplement the tuition for those children who have support at home and the academic capability, that lowers the population in the public school system and allow for more focused instruction to those students that need it.

As far as pay goes, there definitely existing programs, contracts or grants in place that could be used to supplement teacher salaries. For example, there is a budget for early childhood education, but also one for childcare subsidies. If you combine those budgets and move Kindergarten and Pre-K 3/4 into licensed childcare facilities, you can hire licensed teachers to teach at those centers, but also pay them more. A lot of parents with children that age will be utilizing childcare in addition to school anyway.

Kids should be graduating high school with either an associates degree, certification or completed an apprentice program for some trade.

My wife has been teaching for going on 6 years now, doesn’t make shyt, and is beyond stressed due to lack of funding every day. I’ve tried to put her onto jobs from people I know that would start her out in the 55k range but she refuses because she doesn’t want to let down her kids….:francis:

I can respect it because as a nurse I deal with a lot of shyt and don’t plan on leaving until I finish my M-FNP degree and even then it’s still in the same field.

She doesn’t even want to do admin work because she said her best place is in the classroom…

As some in the field. You really have to be dedicated to the job. I’m NY there are plenty of teachers making 6 figures, but it comes with a mound of responsibility and even more development and ed along the way. I’m transitioning into to education technology so I’m a step away from the classroom but it still a grind

Teaching in Florida is crap and I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. I’m going back to school for accounting. Lol. I’m still working because what I am doing is easy work. I haven’t been drug tested once and I’m in my 6th year.
