The entire concept of school, curriculum and how teaching is viewed, has to be re-engineered. I think there should be a more collaborative effort between all type of schools and grouping children based on socio-economic conditions and/or overall learning style. Baltimore City school system for example, once reported they spent $15k per pupil, per school year.

A moderate private school can run about $6500 per school year, but probably facing student shortages. If the public school system could work with them to supplement the tuition for those children who have support at home and the academic capability, that lowers the population in the public school system and allow for more focused instruction to those students that need it.

As far as pay goes, there definitely existing programs, contracts or grants in place that could be used to supplement teacher salaries. For example, there is a budget for early childhood education, but also one for childcare subsidies. If you combine those budgets and move Kindergarten and Pre-K 3/4 into licensed childcare facilities, you can hire licensed teachers to teach at those centers, but also pay them more. A lot of parents with children that age will be utilizing childcare in addition to school anyway.

Kids should be graduating high school with either an associates degree, certification or completed an apprentice program for some trade.

when I first finished college I had a period where I was struggling to find a good job and my mom kept trying to push me towards substitute teaching and that was my biggest reason why I was like hell nah. i could not handle that shyt.

The thing with subbing was you had to establish yourself. Every class had bad kid or two. Kids can sense fear,if they acted toss them out :camby:. As a substitute you basically had more power then you think. The hardest group was middle school kids by far.

Doesnt that hinder child more? School system is shyt but kids develop social skills. being around their friends.

My aunt has two kids she homeschool.

One just graduated and normal as any kid his age.

Most of the stuff we "know" about homeschooled kids is a myth.

Parents just need time and resources. She still homeschooling his sister.

That said; public schools ain't an exactly nurturing. And the people in charge don't give a fukk about your kids.

EDIT: She's part of a group and a church woman, so her kids are out socializing as normal. Again, the myth is that they are stuck inside all day and kept away from "normal" kids.

Teaching is the most thankless job ever, overworked, severely underpaid.

Teachers are tasked with probably the most important job in the country. I made more money packing boxes at Amazon. That's an issue.

I would say bus drivers. In certain states they dont have bus monitors. So you could have a rowdy ass bus, kids in back wildin out and fighting yet you have to have your eyes on road obviously. Most of the classes dont truly teach they manage. All these kids wanted to do is sleep or go to the gym hang with friends. It depends on school too,so many schools are laid back and truly dont care.

See thats the thing its time and resources. Homeschooling always better option but finding time and definetely resources. I feel bad for some parents.

Hmm ain’t heard of this.

Heard the requirements to becoming a teacher is more and more difficult nowadays. Even having a masters is not enough, maybe that’s being a college professor idk.

what has been your experience?
My experience has been fair but actively planning my exit is more in vain because I’m no longer challenged and I feel I supposed to be doing more as a professional and teaching is pretty much settling for me. It’s a necessity and I won’t knock it but I envision myself being of being of a higher echelon.

I’m legit interested in hearing your perspective

is it a result of conditions now with the pandemic?
The pandemic made it worse because working with a plethora of students simultaneously online is hell!

or have you always felt that way?
I have been feeling this way but I didn’t know how to do what I wanted to do. I sold myself short in initially pursuing a career in accounting but finance in general because self-induced fear and lack of belief.
Honestly, it’s lot these crackers require to teach and the pay doesn’t match here in Florida. Literally, without teachers nothing else is possible.
