Might be wrong forum but what you guys think about school districts that have 100+ teacher openings, teachers are quitting left and right. Its bad to point where school bus drivers are actually becoming susbtitutes. How do yall non home schooling parents send your kids to school knowing schools are a mess.Public or Private must admit this school year coming up is pivotal for the future.

Thats what happened to me. Schools BEG me to teach. I was going into worst areas. Funny thing is I actually connected with those kids :pachaha: . Most of brothas that teach are at middle school, high school level. I kid yall not they DONT want any black men teaching elementary unless they gay . White or black elementary they resent men in those offices.

I really wonder why?

They don't pay enough for the bullshyt they go through. It's why teachers in my city hold on to their jobs like glue. Will drive three hours to get to work, because we're one of the few school districts that pay well. The ones who do leave eventually try to come back. I know people love their children, but your children are little a$$holes, and they are putting up with and regulating their behavior for an equal amount of time as you. Then add the covid fukkery to everything. On top of that, many parents don't respect teachers. So I can see them saying fukk it.

Hmm ain’t heard of this.

Heard the requirements to becoming a teacher is more and more difficult nowadays. Even having a masters is not enough, maybe that’s being a college professor idk.

That's being a college professor. A teacher naw it's a crazy shortage and many of the requirements are being lowered now especially in the teacher cert programs.

Yep this is true. They are lowering requirements. They even waving shyt in the teacher cert program and last year they were letting senior college students who were going for teaching skip some classes in order for them to get out the door quicker and into the classroom.

IMO folks miss the boat with teaching...big time. I say this as a man whose father taught for 45 years in the Chicago schools system and who just retired in spring 2020.

I come from a family of teachers on my dads side. Pretty much everyone on my dad's side of the family who has a college degree is either a school teacher, a principle, a sports coach or doctor. That side of the family came out of Mississippi and anyone who knows that area understands the older generations of black folks took up teacher as a way to matriculate to middle class. Cause due to racism that was one of the few educated jobs you could get there cause you were gonna teach your own and because of the state having HBCUs.

The last year my dad worked he had made well into the early 100k salary and had been making 100k for at least 20 years without working the summer. Hell truth be told my dad was working summers at the chicago board of education playground district as a teacher organizing summer camps and making 100k then with his teacher job and summer teacher job.

So when folks mention salary they fail to realize that's the salary over working 10 months or 189 days. Since you get paid for spring break, paid fall break, paid 2 weeks for Christmas break. Plus paid for the local holidays and weather days. So you might work for 10 months but you getting at least 4 weeks in holidays and don't forget you get 2 to 3 weeks of vacation time.

And if you get a job out west or up north or north east with a strong union. You getting a mandatory 3 to 5 percent raise, a good retirement plan and other great benefits.

My dad retired and getting 85k a year in pension now. One more thing being a teacher has some of the best job security there is around. My dad put it to me like this when I was young. Yeah some of my college friends make more. They have bigger salaries and big bonuses. But they also been laid off 2 or 3 times. Took them 6 months to a year to find another job or have to stress about layoffs every few years. Where as my dad never had to worry about layoffs or it being difficult to find a new job or having to relocate to find a new job or getting laid off due to ageism.

The problem is starting around the gen x and millenials generations being a teacher became negative in view. It wasn't looked at as an exciting job or a job to brag about. But forgetting that it was an honest profession with good benefits and job security. The pay wasn't big but nor is the pay big in some of these garbage degrees kats going to school to get in 50k and more of debt with no job in sight.

My mother is a retired teacher and alotta her side are educators as well. She pushed me towards teaching but I let my old man talk me outta majoring in education because teachers “didn’t make any money.” As soon as I came home from college my hs football coach tried to get me a job teaching and coaching. He moved to head administrator in the district office a couple yrs later and was responsible for helping to hire new head coaches. I would’ve been a HC about 5 yrs in. And as you know down here most HC in football make over 100,000 and don’t teach any classes.

First of all:

THEY DONT PAY ENOUGH.

SECOND OF ALL:

THEY DONT PAY ENOUGH.

This.

I will argue with anyone. I don’t know what teachers get paid but whatever it is it ain’t enough.

After doing distant learning for the last year and change I recognize it’s a special skillset that I definitely was not blessed with.

So teens can roam the streets even MORE???

:camby:
If they don't have teachers they're not gonna go to class with a bunch of subs. Not all will rome the streets. Some will get part time jobs and will be able to get off early. Instead of working some late shift.

wow this sums up an overwhelming number of posters on thecoli in a nutshell… “don’t know” shyt but “will argue with anyone” :dead:

In that same post you cherry picked I explained my position from my own first hand experience.

whatever they’re paid needs to increase in order to attract more people with that special skillset.

But go ahead and get your dap/dunk attempt

not mad at ya.

But go ahead and go for your dap/dunk attempt

nah that’s not what that was…I just have 20 years experience vs your “year and change”…I’ve seen these type of threads on many forums over the years and they’re often mixed with good advice from those you can tell have many years of experience in the field vs those who have little to none…and it’s usually those who have little to none who drop deterrent posts

somebody at one of the career fairs brought this up to me it's a program called troops to teachers talking about they need brothers to teach high school....I respect anyone who has the patience to deal with children for the amount of pay they receive but I damn sure wouldn't teach high school. I remember how I was when I was in school and I know I wouldn't deal with it.

So much respect to those who can toe that line...I'd apply for the fire academy at 40 before I became a teacher.
Teaching isn't for everybody. It's a "career" job that pays like a job job.

us likes to put more money into the military than education. unions are far too "communist" for retarded ass Republicans and their voterbase. Teachers really should just go on a Nationwide strike. But that won't happen
