So the refs made sure you bricked all those shots in the 4th? :ohhh:

:camby:

Portland bricked a shytload of shots in the 4th. That's why I call it a collapse. But it wasn't all on them.

Lakers had a giant 37 to 16 lead on free throws. The refs fouled out Sabonis (guarding Shaq) and Pippen (guarding Kobe), and called bullshyt on the Blazers all game long. Bill Simmons calls it the first of the series of "Great rigged games of the Shaq-Kobe era."

It wasn't like Portland didn't have the personnel to get to the line - they were even on free throws for the series until that game. It wasn't like Pippen couldn't guard 20-year-old Kobe - he hadn't fouled out of any other games. In the other game dikk Bavetta ref'd in the series, Pippen only got called for two fouls and Sabonis for three. It was only that game, the first one where the Lakers faced elimination, that Portland suddenly couldn't buy a fukking call.

Watch the video - this pretty much defines every crucial game the Lakers played in that 2000-2002 run. If they were having a tough time, then you couldn't disturb Shaq in any way at all without fouling out of the game, and Kobe got way more than he deserved too.
