I hope she doesn’t disregard this feedback. Being silent in meetings/ coming across as unengaged can be career suicide depending on the role you’re in. You’re pretty much pigeonholing yourself as a role player rather than a leader. lol sometimes I wonder if people want to win this corporate game or if they just want to be martyrs? With how things are moving with AI integration into the workplace(sensible or not) , they may get their wish sooner rather than later.
No one wants to play this retarded game. It's actually best to talk less and only talk when you have something of substance to say. This is how it is in the East. America rewards people who know how to BS their way to leadership, which is why certain cultures where scamming and BSing is normal tend to succeed in America. I wont say what cultures do that.... but you just gotta look at American CEOs backgrounds to get what im talking about.

Im a contractor w/a three letter agency and they laying people off left and right. Both feds and some contracts got cut. They saying mine is good (for now) but it’s unsettling. And of course it just means more of a workload for everyone
That's why I won't ever work for the Feds again. Fool me once but....you can't be fooled again.

Those contracts mean nothing when they want to cut headcount.

Any coli brehs throw in the tech towel?
Wouldn’t say throw in as I’m still working as a Sr. SWE at a place where I am a specialist on a project. I’m also nearly done with an Electrical Engineering degree (all Upper Divisions and many electives are done but couldn’t afford all classes last semester) on top of the BSCS I have already.

I’m thinking of going the traditional, hands on EE route but pay will most likely be lower and remote work much harder to find because it’s traditional Engineering and they move like dinosaurs compared to the tech industry regarding work-life balance.

So if that don’t pan out (especially because working RF and Communication Systems is tough to get into for non-defense and only a BS) and I can’t get another SWE role I’m probably going to take easier roles and punch down: a lot of people without complex degrees take ordinary jobs and either get lucky the employer will satisfy a high salary demand or job stack the easier jobs.

I'm trying to get back in lol.

I used to work as an electrical lab tech, the work was fun; Calibrating and repairing electrical equipment. But theses a$$holes never wanted to pay a fair salary.

It's fukked that all these jobs are laying people off. HT the wack ones keep on finding new employees. It's like their business method is the revolving door one.

:ohhh:That’s impressive… she has a good resume tho from going to MIT, 6 internships in college with Microsoft and other big names…

It’s highly unlikely she’ll ever be unemployed. lol she’s an anomaly. I can’t relate lol
If she's smart she'll leave Silicon Valley once her options mature. But people her age aren't really forward thinking. I meet soany of them drunk off that Corporate Kool aid until sent packing.

You're either laid off or worrying about getting laid off. Not sure how anyone can be secure in their position right now. Offshoring + AI means it's not really about performance, every company is in cost savings mode right now. You could be great at your job and it might not mean shyt

Another side effect of tech having so few blacks. Sometimes you just can't relate to your coworkers or if your team is heavily dominated by a particular foreign nationality they will form their own cliques making you feel isolated. Also your communication level can become a perception issue. She may be talking "enough" but going unnoticed for the reasons I said above. I've worked in environments where I said something, everyone shook their heads then someone white would literally say the same thing 10-15 min later and it would spur a whole conversation. It becomes demoralizing after a while and you just share less knowing mofos overlooking you regardless what you say/do

:russell: People didn't believe she made 300k? Weird. Most people leave Google because of comperatively low pay.

My boy just left Google (AWS before). He was making the same, maybe a bit more. Dropped out of high school.

Interviewing with Meta, Netflix, and Quant firms while traveling Asia in a haze of coding, jetlag, cheap beer, and easy women.

His experience was similar to hers. Enjoyed the food and laundry. Enjoyed shuttling on specially chartered buses. Sounded cool to say he worked at Google.

Was disappointed in how silo'd everything felt. Didn't enjoy the team and the turnover. All the good engineers left, he got stuck with two awful Indian women as managers.

He's a high school drop out. fukk a MIT degree.
