I work for the railroad. It's a great low six figure gig (120-140k after the first year*) but the railroads have been trying to make it a one man crew for a minute. Bear in mind it was four of five man crews 40 years ago. There's no escape anywhere. The time to stop this was decades ago but all the white collar workers laughed and pointed at those lazy union workers "getting what they deserve."

Capitalism has no pet worker. And that's what you all are at the end of the day, workers. And we're all replaceable. I hate some of you had to find out this way. Good luck.

*Be prepared to work so much you won't really be able to enjoy any of that.
I think an impending goal for everyone should be to have some type of side hustle, gig / way of making money independent of physically working at a corporation post 2030.

A priority should definitely be contributing to rainy day funds.

So after they've taken so much that they force everyone into parallel decentralized economies... what do you think they will do to try to force us back?

These rich folks etc don't realize the scraps they give us is the only thing stopping mass protests and revolutions. When people have no money , can't buy food nowhere to live what do think is going to happen?

Ai went from something to help to now companies thinking they can get rid of everyone and just have more profits for themselves.

Yup India, Phillipines etc. where a dude will work for 8 a hour instead of the 45 you'd pay someone in the west

In the future when the oligarchs are getting their heads chopped off they will understand it then
I was in Bali last year, and a popular app, that’s a mix of DoorDash and uber, had so many bugs I can’t help but think about their backend standards. Like how could an app be allowed to come to production.

I was like damn, if they hire me, I’d fix half the problems with the app :heh:

Companies only fix bugs once found by Pentest team or a Hacker. Everything goes straight into Production.

The public wouldn't believe the amount of cyber breaches caused by overseas coders. Management quietly sweeps it under the rug and pretends it never happened.

Crowdstrike incident was a shining example of that.

That’s why you need QA.

SWE team should not be doing QA outside of Unit/Integration testing, there should be dedicated QA teams protecting the back layer.

These overseas teams only prioritize speed over everything. That's all management cares about. I haven't worked at a company in years that still employed QA people.

Are we talking about people just sitting around doing nothing, or that their projects will simply stop existing?
I don't have much to add to this thread, but I want to address this notion in the bold.

This is a common mindset in IT that i think might also be contributing to layoffs.

"Those guys are sitting around doing nothing." When the IT infrastructure/environment/program or what have you is up and running smoothly."

Then when it's issues "Those guys are sitting around doing nothing."

shyt is a lose, lose situation in some workplaces. Mfers think if you sit at a computer for living you ain't working. Work to them is like construction or some shyt.

That's all i have to say.

In my experience management doesn't really care how or if the work gets done. I've seen them layoff entire IT teams immediately after they complete a huge project rollout. They know how many hours it took, issues encountered etc. They just don't care because some bean counter says it's cheaper to outsource this team.

My job is landing a former CISO :wow: that's how you know the job market is terrible. I am positive he will not last long if something else falls on his lap. The company is growing despite not being the best if you want work life balance especially due to the amount of traveling involved.
