Democrats' 'HIRE Act' to double H‑1B visas sparks GOP fury and calls for a hiring freeze

Dude is looking out for his people. How much money did Big Tech pay him to sponsor that piece of shyt bill?
:pachaha:
Tech Brehs, what’s the point of H1B’s? Do we not have enough here in the states to fill all these roles especially with the lay offs?
:lupe:

I’ve been working with a team that does a lot of this stuff and honestly it seems like a pretty secure field if you get in

Very few people actually understand how networking works and it’s not really a field that’s easy to automate from what I understand
A gig that's going to be around for awhile due to all the network equipment out there. I know several Network Engineers who work for State and Federal Government. They got it made for the most part. But I would stay away from private sector companies because they outsource these jobs once salaries get too high. Only the really senior Architects usually get spared.

I had a zoom call with a recruiter today. Hybrid, 4-5 days in office, paid lunch, 60% more than I’m making. And yeah, my current salary is kinda meh, but it’s easy work.

If I could find a remote role, I’d try working 2 jobs at the same time.

I said this before but my last job I quit without a backup plan when they put me on a pip. Then the 2 jobs before that were layoffs (one was a disorganized startup and the other a euro company that pulled out of the country).

In interviews I just say that they’re all layoffs and emphasize that they’re startups. Maybe it worked this time because the recruiter added me on LinkedIn after the interview.

Job seems like it’s so much more work though. Recruiter said they had 12 people start today. I’m used to 1 or 2 new hires every couple of months maybe.

:hhh: I hate how companies are stretching the word hybrid. 4 days a week in the office isn’t hybrid smh. Hope you get the job though

A high school dropout who got hired at OpenAI says he used ChatGPT to learn Ph.D.-level AI

Can’t hate the player or the game or even the tools

A lot of folks will sit on their asses and complain while this person took a “free” tool and sat down and learned the game and got some bags out of it.

Am I all in on the doom and gloom of AI taking over everything? Nah, but folks have to update their arsenal of tools and AI is part of the package.

Anything I’ve coded will have little things that need some “clean up” when it’s done and I’ll use AI

The other day I had an issue on a website there something was not showing on mobile but showed on desktop and tablet. It was CSS issue. This was bugging me for like 2 weeks. I figured it out on my own but asked chat gpt about it and it explained to me why I was having the issue.

I only listened to a few minutes of that guys podcast interview. But I don't believe his story for one second.

At this point, who knows.

There’s a lot of folks out there taking AI deep dives and really making it work for them. I honestly wish I had the disciple to sit and soak it all in because I’m sure some could help.

But we know at a base level this stuff isn’t going any where. Folks need to get off the dumb Michael Jackson and 2Pac AI video wave and figure out how to either integrate it into their work situation or pivot and learn new skills with it
