I look at areas covered by strict laws and regulations. Meaning the company is subject to fines if they don't do X or Y. Anything dealing with Privacy GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA won't be easily outsourced. Because companies don't want to pay those fines or get bad publicity.

If you focus just on technology they'll always find someone willing to do the work cheaper.
Can you expand on this? You mean I should look for IT jobs in banking or healthcare sectors for example?

I always pick heavily regulated industries Finance, Healthcare, Energy etc. Because they have a license to print money. Once you get experience in one any company in that industry will hire you.

And you network with the business people in those fields not other techies. Because the business people sign all the checks.
